Fans of DC's Injustice universe may have cause to get tentatively excited based off of a series of cryptic twitter messages coming from Tom Taylor that hint at the writer possibly returning to the series years after having penned its original run.

Taylor kicked off the series with Injustice: Gods Among Us back in 2013, with the books serving as a tie-in prequel to the video game of the same name, which saw DC Comics mainstays brawling, Mortal Kombat-style. The original run of books was meant to inform readers how the DC Universe came to be in the state that it was, with heroes and rogues alike clashing with and against one another. The arc opens on Superman, who is tricked by Joker and a cocktail of chemicals into believing a pregnant Lois Lane is actually Doomsday.

Clark inadvertently kills Lois before Joker destroys all of Metropolis with a massive bomb. An understandably upset Clark Kent tracks the clown down and literally punches a hole through his chest. A distraught Superman launches a totalitarian regime to subjugate humanity and factions within the DC universe splinter and begin warring with one another.

After teasing fans for days with hints that big news was coming, Taylor has now dropped what may be his biggest clue yet. The enigmatic tweet came with a photo of a solitary letter I (notably in Injustice's signature font) and is accompanied by the caption: "'I think it could have been different.' - Batman."

So, while exciting, fans are left with a lot of unanswered questions - at least at the moment. What does this mean? Are there more Injustice books coming down the pipeline? Is this a hint that Taylor is involved with an Injustice 3 game that's on the way? There's been speculation of a third entry in the video game franchise in progress, so it's also possible this could tie into both. When Batman says "I think it could have been different," who may he be speaking to? Is a possible reconciliation between the Caped Crusader and the Man of Steel in the cards after years of violent conflict?

Unfortunately, the answer to all of those questions is currently just a tantalizing letter I and Batman's query. Taylor also had recently said that big news is on its way via his twitter account, so devotees may want to keep an eye out for whatever clues or news he drops next. In the meantime, all fans are left with is speculation and hope.
