DC Comics has a long history of characters who eventually received television shows and/or movies with the main plot revolving around them. Since its introduction in May 2020, HBO Max has green-lit and added several new projects featuring the DC Comics characters, despite some missing from their extensive library.

However, while fans have a good amount of content to look forward to in the coming years on the streaming service, there are some Reddit users who would love to see some new characters get their own HBO Max show too.

Booster Gold

Booster Gold in the comics

Booster Gold is a superhero who rarely gets to shine outside of the comic books and never on his own. The character is a time traveler from the future who returns to the past to become a beloved hero by utilizing historical knowledge to his advantage. He is often portrayed as a goofy character who just wants popularity, but he has a more noble side that occasionally shows whenever he can't use future knowledge.

That's why Reddit user human_in_the_mist is so disappointed that "Booster Gold [...hasn't] had their own TV series or movie by now" since this premise can set up plenty of interesting plots. However, with the DC Comics character, Blue Beetle, set to release their own movie in August 2023, fans shouldn't lose hope just yet. Booster Gold could crossover at some point as well.

Mister Terrific

As far as intelligent characters in the DC Comics universe go, Mister Terrific is high up on the list. Mister Terrific made his live-action debut on Arrow, where he was one of the characters who appeared the most in the series.

While this iteration was slightly altered to make him more of a supporting character, Mister Terrific has an amazing origin story so it's no wonder that Reddit user superman853 is disappointed that he "can't get a regular book" or movie. Hopefully, within time, he will end up getting the respect he deserves and be able to front his own series.

Firestorm

Firestorm flying in DC Comics

There are several versions of the DC Comics character Firestorm, none of which have ever gotten their own movie or television series. Firestorm is a fascinating character who can utilize multiple nuclear superpowers and abilities, all while sharing one body between two human hosts. Most people will recognize the character from his time on The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow, where he played a starring role in the latter's first three seasons.

However, for Reddit user Thebassist17, they believe "we need more Firestorm. Even if they pair him with someone, [it...] could make for a fun series." Rebooting the character separate from The Arrowverse would be refreshing and HBO Max is a perfect place for Firestorm to star in his own show.

Red Lantern Corps

Atrocitus leading the Red Lantern Corps.

The Red Lantern Corps is a supervillain organization that is often underutilized in favor of other storylines in both the comics and other forms of DC media. Unlike the Green Lantern corps who are very popular in the comics and get their abilities from willpower, the red lanterns' powers derive from rage.

When asked about which DC Comics characters are underused and deserve more exploration, Reddit user TisButAScreenName wrote "Any Lantern corps that is not green or yellow." Having an HBO Max series based on the Red Lanterns would allow casual fans to see how brutal and occasionally anti-heroic they can be. With HBO Max already green-lighting a show for the Green Lanterns, it's not out of the realm of possibility that the Reds appear soon enough.

Huntress

Helena Wayne as the Huntress in DC Comics

Despite being advertised as one of the lead characters in 2020's Birds of Prey film, Huntress was one of the characters with the least screen time in the film. Huntress is a very capable and skillful character who despite being underutilized in the DCEU, can still be used again in the future.

Although fans only got a brief glimpse of it in the movie, Reddit user Nylese believes there is still more to be done as "Huntress had one of the richest origin stories." She could certainly hold her own in an HBO Max series and with Black Canary getting her spinoff film on the streaming service, maybe there are plans for Huntress down the line too.

Vixen

Vixen is a unique superhero who has the power to channel the spirit of any animal through her totem. The character used to have her own animated series on CW Seed, but it was canceled after only 12 episodes.

With so much of her story left to be explored, there's a lot HBO Max could do if they gave her a series. As Reddit user Orbit86 states, it would also be great to see the DC Universe add more diverse and progressive characters since Vixen is "a minority superhero" that could become a role model for young fans growing up.

Question

The Question in a dark alleyway in DC Comics

The one genre of DC Comics television shows that is missing right now is a detective series. The Question would be an excellent character to revolve an HBO Max series around because of his superior detective skills and hand-to-hand combat abilities.

As Reddit user TheCrafterTigery writes, "he could have a great series if you gave him a good writer on HBO." The Question is often underutilized in DC Comics media, but his constant paranoid conspiracy theorist personality offers something new that fans don't see much in superhero leads. As a Neo-noir series on HBO Max, The Question would make for a very thrilling and exciting experience for longtime fans.

Legion Of Super-Heroes

Legion of Super-Heroes in DC Comics

The Legion of Super-Heroes is a DC Comics superhero team that resides in the 30th and 31st centuries. The team has a unique roster of heroes who are often inspired by the heroic efforts of the Justice League from long before their time. The superhero team is rarely at the center of attention in DC media, despite having their own kids' animated series in the mid-2000s.

As Reddit user thegirlwhoexisted wrote about the team, it's weird how underutilized they were "considering the sheer variety of characters and the imaginative possibilities of the setting." There's a lot of potential that could come with an HBO Max series for The Legion even if it were just animation. Rather than just guest appearances as characters from the future, it's time to fully lean into the team who deserves their own time in the spotlight.

Zatanna

Zatanna grabbing her top hata in DC Comics

Zatanna Zatara is one of the most loved DC Comics characters who ironically don't get nearly enough love in the comics or media. Zatanna is a master of the mystical arts, who can cast almost any elemental spell among other abilities. With a very loyal fan base, including Reddit user Martel732, it's not surprising that fans want to see more of Zatanna since they believe she "was way underused."

She is one of the lead characters on the animated Young Justice series but has only appeared in live-action once since her creation in the 1960s. Despite this, HBO Max is currently developing a film for the character even though a series would likely be better. Zatanna is a complex character with a lot of fascinating character lore that can't be fully told in just one film. Unless HBO Max has plans to make potential sequels for the film, it's tough to see what their vision is for Zatanna by not having a series.

Cassandra Cain

The Bat-Family is one of the strongest collectives among all comic books, but one member who truly deserves their own series is Batman's adopted daughter, Cassandra Cain. As Reddit user densuke8598 writes, "she [might be] in a bit more now but basically nothing outside the comics," which is completely accurate.

Cain's origin story revolves around her being trained by her father David Cain, to become the world's greatest assassin. She also has an interesting backstory too that fans hope will get explored sometime in the future. She deserves her own series just as much as any other DC Comics character.
