When Catwoman left Batman at their wedding to launch into her own, California based comic book series, many fans may have expected Bruce Wayne to come chasing after her. But the Gotham City citizen who has come knocking isn't the Dark Knight, but the Penguin... with a job offer that only somebody like Selina Kyle can pull off.

In her heyday, Catwoman could fight, flip, and fleece with the very best treasure hunters and amateur archeological adventurers throughout fiction. And while her Catwoman comic has mainly seen Selina battling new villains - proving her combat skills haven't been dulled whatsoever - our preview of Catwoman #8 is sending her back into the tomb-raiding business. Well, not so much a tomb as an abandoned tower. But we would say the magical inhabitants guarding a mystical relic more than make up for that difference.

The previous issue concluded with Penguin announcing his presence in Villa Hermosa, Catwoman's new digs, in explosive fashion. And after defeating each of his goons and making her way to the surprise member of Batman's rogues gallery, Selina was left speechless. Issue #8 picks up without missing a beat, and revealing just why Penguin has come to find her on the opposite side of America from Gotham City. And these first pages also show what artifact Catwoman will likely be sent to retrieve.

The organized crime kingpin (queenpin?) Raina Creel is the first to seek out the magical formula apparently being sold out of the aforementioned Villa Hermosa. While details aren't yet offered about the purchased substance, the source, or the mystery woman handling the sale in old, old world clothing, the dots are easy to connect. If Creel wants it, there's a good chance it's tied to eternal youth, or restorative magic (since her flawed plastic surgeries and faked looks are the heart of her character's grotesque appearance). And while some might expect that Oswald Cobblepot will want the same substance to perhaps... sigh... heal his deceased penguin lover, we would prefer not to consider that theory until absolutely necessary.

DC fans will need to pick up the full issue on Wednesday to know for sure, but until then, read on for the full synopsis and details below:

  • What is it that they say about house-guests and bad fish? How they both start to stink after a couple of days? Well, Oswald Cobblepot has been hanging around Catwoman’s new city, and Selina Kyle has been holding her nose for far too long. It’s time to send the Penguin packing! I mean, the guy smelled like fish even before he arrived.

Catwoman #8 will be available on February 20th, from DC Comics.
