Warning! This post contains SPOILERS ahead for DCeased: War of the Undead Gods #4In the latest issue of DCeased: War of the Undead Gods, two of the Bat-Family's most crucial members have finally become a couple. While there have been flirtations in the past, Alfred Pennyworth and Leslie Thompkins are now an official romantic item (despite being in the middle of an active galactic infection of the undead). While it's been a long time coming, it's certainly come at the perfect time considering Alfred's tormented past in this alternate timeline for the DCU.

While Alfred Pennyworth is often considered the surrogate father of the Bat-Family who keeps everyone stable and grounded, Doctor Leslie Thompkins is the mother. A friend of Bruce Wayne's father Thomas, Leslie is one of the few people in Gotham entrusted with Batman's secret identity. As such, she's served as a frequent therapist and confidant not only to the Dark Knight, but also to many of Gotham's vigilantes.

Now, Leslie and Alfred have finally taken their relationship to the next level in the new DCeased: War of the Undead Gods #4 from Tom Taylor, Trevor Hairsine, and Neil Edwards. Despite having no choice, Alfred's guilt has persisted from killing the undead versions of Batman, Nightwing, and Tim Drake's Robin. To that end, Leslie has been a major source of comfort for Alfred. Likewise, when Damian Wayne's new Batman discovers the two of them are together, he couldn't be happier. The feeling seems to be mutual with DCeased's other heroes as well such as Jon Kent's Superman.

Thankfully, Leslie has been trying to help Alfred release his anger rather than letting it consume him whole. It certainly didn't help Alfred's guilt when a cure to the corrupted Anti-Life Equation was developed later on. Regardless, Leslie becoming Alfred's new girlfriend is a very exciting development fans have long been hoping for, even if it is happening in an alternate DC timeline that may be reaching its demise due to a spreading infection across the cosmos alongside an undead Darkseid who's become a Yellow Lantern.

At any rate, DCeased may be the best and only opportunity for Pennyworth and Leslie to actually be together considering Alfred has been dead the last few years in the main DC timeline. As such, it's pretty satisfying that Tom Taylor found a way to make it happen for fans who've been wanting to see the Bat-Family's most important members finally finding love.
