2019 is shaping up to be the biggest year yet for DC Entertainment, with 25 confirmed feature-length films, TV series, and animated movies based on DC Comics properties planned for release. Many of these are established series such as the various live-action shows making up The CW's Arrowverse; others are new series being produced exclusively for the new DC Universe streaming service, which was released to wide acclaim last fall.

The lineup of material based on DC Comics' characters is truly astounding, offering a wide variety for all ages and all tastes. There is family friendly fare, such as the new DC Super Hero Girls series; there are more mature works, such as HBO's upcoming Watchmen show, and there are also some eclectic works, such as the fifth and final season of iZombie, which some fans don't realize was based on a comic book, to begin with.

This helpful guide will run through all the DC Comics-inspired movies, live-action shows, animated films, and cartoons that are expected to be released sometime in 2019. Since several of these projects are still in development, a few of them still haven't been given official release/premiere dates.

SHAZAM! - APRIL 5

Shazam - Shazam and Freddy

Foster child Billy Batson is a good-hearted boy, despite a hard-knock life. Chosen by a wizard to become heir to his power, Billy is transformed into a super-powered adult whenever he exclaims the magic word "Shazam." Part of the DC Extended Universe, the early buzz for Shazam! is strong, with its first trailer from SDCC promising a more light-hearted story than earlier DCEU movies.

Shazam! stars Zachary Levi as the grown-up superhero Shazam and Mark Strong as Dr. Thaddeus Sivana - Shazam's arch-enemy in the comics. The villain's origin is reportedly being changed for the movie, however, with Dr. Sivana now being one who was denied the power of Shazam because of his dark heart rather than a mad scientist determined to prove the superiority of his science over Shazam's magic.

JOKER - OCTOBER 4

Joaquin Phoenix as the Joker

Starring Joaquin Phoenix as the Clown Prince of Crime, very little has been said about the story of Joker beyond it being a gritty origin story for Batman's most famous foe. Hopes are high, however, with the movie being directed by The Hangover director Todd Phillips. The movie will also star Zazie Beetz, Robert De Niro, and Marc Maron. It was originally supposed to be produced by Martin Scorsese, but the filmmaker dropped out of the project and was replaced by Emma Tillinger Koskoff.

Teen Titans Go! Vs. Teen Titans Logo

Little is known about this animated film, which was first announced through a leaked trailer that was meant to appear before the home video release of Teen Titans Go! To The Movies. It has been confirmed, however, that Warner Bros. Animation truly is making a movie that will pit the Teen Titans of Teen Titans Go! against the Teen Titans of the 2003 Teen Titans anime. The movie is planned to be released near the end of the year in 2019, though it remains to be seen if it will be a direct-to-video release or a theatrical release.

Gotham Season 5

GOTHAM - JANUARY 3

Based upon the classic comic storyline Batman: No Man's Land, the fifth and final season of Gotham sees the titular city cut off from the outside world. This leads to a war between what few good people remain and the various villains introduced over the past four seasons. All of this sets the stage for Bruce Wayne to take up the mantle of the Dark Knight in order to save his city, as well as have Jim Gordon become the city's police commissioner.

THE FLASH - JANUARY 15

Nora Allen and Barry Allen in The Flash Season 5

The second-half of The Flash season 5 will see Barry Allen and his fellow superheroes in Central City facing two threats; the super-powered serial-killer Cicada is still at large and the team faces an enemy within, as The Flash season 5 midseason finale revealed that Nora Allen - Flash's daughter from the future - has been working for the Reverse-Flash. It remains to be seen if she's a willing pawn or an unwitting dupe, but it seems likely this will end in tears in either case.

SUPERGIRL - JANUARY 20

Supergirl Season 4 Bunker Hill

Supergirl season 4 saw Kara Danvers having to contend with an enemy unlike she'd ever faced before - the anti-alien militia leader Agent Liberty. Though the mid-season finale saw Agent Liberty's identity exposed to the world along with the depth of his terrorism, this only served to make him a martyr to his cause and the public backlash prompted Supergirl's dismissal from the DEO. The remainder of the season will see Supergirl having to cope with her new status as an outlaw, as well as the emergence of a Russian Supergirl clone and her first confrontation with Lex Luthor.

ARROW -  JANUARY 21

Arrow Season 7 Return Header

Arrow season 7 opened with Oliver Queen in prison as a result of a plea bargain to buy immunity for his fellow vigilantes. Unfortunately, Star City went to hell in a hand-basket without its heroes, leaving a new Green Arrow (who is apparently Oliver Queen's half-sister) to pick up the slack. Thankfully, Oliver was freed from prison and hired on by the SCPD as a consultant so he could continue saving his city without violating the new anti-vigilante laws, though it remains to be seen if an accord can be reached between the new Green Arrow and the old one.

Black Lightning season 2 ended on a major cliffhanger, with the Pierce family racing to find wayward daughter, Jennifer, as she skipped town with her ex-boyfriend Khalil, hoping to get him out of the reach of crime-boss Tobias Whale. The remainder of the season will likely see Jefferson Pierce facing off against his arch-enemy directly, as Whale continues in his efforts to turn Freeland into his own personal kingdom. The series is moving to a new time-slot on The CW, now airing on Monday evenings after Arrow.

DOOM PATROL - FEBRUARY 15

Cyborg smiles as he poses with Doom Patrol in Doom Patrol.

The second original live-action series produced for DC Universe, Doom Patrol has been highly anticipated since the team first appeared in an episode of Titans. Based on the classic comic series about "The World's Strangest Heroes," the new series does take some liberties with the comics by including Teen Titans mainstay Cyborg as part of their line-up. Still, with the promise of weirder characters like Danny The Street also being brought to life, this is one to keep an eye on.

Then Courtney discovers that her new step-dad is an ex-sidekick and Courtney finds herself thrust into the role of hero as she takes up the mantle of Stargirl. A prequel series based around the origins of Alfred Pennyworth before he became Batman's butler, Pennyworth promises "a darkly stylish mix of postwar and 1960s Great Britain" in the same vein as James Bond. The series will air on the Epix network, but no release date or time has been announced beyond the show premiering sometime in 2019.

WATCHMEN - 2019

Based on the classic graphic novel by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons, Watchmen is HBO's first foray into superheroic television. LUCIFER - 2019

Lucifer Netflix

The character of Lucifer, who abandoned his throne in Hell to open a piano bar in Los Angeles, was loosely based upon a character created for Neil Gaiman's classic graphic novel series The SandmanThe show Lucifer moved far beyond that basic concept, creating a police procedural where the fallen angel used his powers to help the LAPD. Running for three seasons on FOX, Netflix picked up Lucifer after its initial cancellation and will air its fourth season sometime in 2019.

Krypton was renewed for season 2, but nothing has been said about when it will air. All that is known about season 2 and its story at this time is that it will feature the character of Lobo, who will be played in live-action for the first time by Emmett J. Scanlan.

Young Justice Outsiders Cropped Cast Poster

YOUNG JUSTICE: OUTSIDERS - JANUARY 4, 2019

Renewed for a third season after a long-running fan campaign, Young Justice: Outsiders may be the most highly anticipated animated series of 2019. Famously cancelled because it was better at attracting older viewers who appreciated its sophisticated stories than selling action figures to children, the new Young Justice season promises a dark edge, as the covert team made up of the Justice League's teen proteges begins to directly combat the problems posed by metahuman trafficking and young people with powers being sold into slavery as living weapons. Young Justice: Outsiders, which is still technically Young Justice season 3, will air exclusively on the DC Universe streaming service, with three episodes being posted every Friday, starting the first week of January 2019. The second half of the new season will release sometime in June.

DC SUPER HERO GIRLS - SPRING 2019

DC Super Hero Girls Reboot Zatanna Supergirl Wonder Woman Bumblebee Green Lantern Jessica Cruz Batgirl Barbara Gordon

HARLEY QUINN - OCTOBER 2019

DC Universe Harley Quinn Show Poison Ivy Harley Quinn Batman

The first original animated series being produced for DC Universe, Harley Quinn offers a decidedly adult take on the Maid of Mischief. The Harley Quinn series' first trailer promises "comedy, action and incredibly gratuitous violence," and there is little reason to doubt it. With an all-star cast of voice actors, including Alan Tudyk as the Joker and Kaley Cuoco as Harley Quinn herself, the upcoming animated series will be a long wait for fans of the classic Harley Quinn until the show premieres sometime in October 2019. It will presumably be the final DC Universe program to release in 2019 before Titans returns in 2020 - unless, of course, DC Universe decides to air more than one show at a time. At the moment, the streaming service is planning on premiering new series once the previous series ends, with new episodes coming every Friday. It's their way of ensuring new content all year long for DC Universe subscribers.

WONDER WOMAN: BLOODLINES - OCTOBER 22
