After the zombified dust settled in Mawinhaken, the general consensus regarding the SyFy original series Day of the Dead is that it was a middling affair that struggled to live up to its namesake. Still, for hardcore horror fans, the mixture of compelling characters and intense onscreen carnage provided enough entertainment to warrant watching a second season when the show returns to the air in late 2022.
As fans await the official release date for Day of the Dead season 2, now is the perfect time to break down the characters' most glaring astrological traits and unique personality quirks. The show certainly has no shortage of either.
Aries - Sarah Blackwood
As a skilled Special Forces agent trained her whole life to be number one, Sarah Blackwood (Morgan Holmstrom) is the alpha female who balances her physical prowess as a former soldier with her clever mind, allowing her to outwit and outmuscle her boss Rhodes (Kevin O'Grady) when necessary.

Gemini - Lauren Howell
From the opening episode in which she is forced to show her physical flexibility and quick-thinking resolve, Lauren Howell (Natalie Malaika) demonstrated traits that aligned with Gemini. Over the course of the season, her sarcastic tone cements her status as a Gemini.
In addition to being as highly adaptable and intelligent as most Geminis, Lauren also exudes the dual nature of the astrological twins as seen when she balances brute force in bashing zombie brains with her calm, pensive demeanor as a problem solver. However, it's really the sardonic extroversion that applies so well.
Cancer - Amy
As one of the most nurturing, sensitive, and protective characters on the love-it-or-hate-it zombie television show, Amy has to be a Cancer. The Mawinhaken town life coach has dedicated her life to caring for others with undying compassion.
In her most harrowing moment on the show, Amy finds the resolve to become a life protector when she helps Lauren and Sarah escort the other survivors to safety from the mineshaft. Between her time with Jai and her father, Amy's main focus is family, a priority for most Cancers.
Leo - Paula Bowman
As the gun-toting second-amendment enthusiast and town Mayor seeking reelection, Paula Bowman can only be described as a Leo. Indeed, Paula fancies herself the queen of the jungle, so to speak, and will do everything in her power to remain the most powerful politician in town.

Libra - Pops Parker
Libra signs are often considered among the most peaceful and non-confrontational of any on the zodiac chart. A perfect description for such qualities on Day of the Dead includes Pops Parker, the pacifistic protestor who'd rather capture zombies with nets than kill them with bullets.
Pops' philosophy is met with ire from other Mawinhaken citizens, but he uses his friendly extroverted demeanor to organize a barricade at Paymart, which helps galvanize the town. Pops' unwavering stance against violence underscores the Libran search for harmony and unity.
Scorpio - Cam McDermott
Cam McDermott is the intrepid son of Sheriff Mike McDermott who spends much of the great zombie show looking for his missing father. Bold, fearless, and extremely smart, Cam combines his brain and brawn to figure out what really happened to his father by the series end.
As such, it's hard to envision Cam as anything but a Scorpio. Unwilling to bend to others' beliefs or perceptions about himself, Cam remains loyal to his father and the mission to find him, never letting anything distract him from his goals. As one of the more pensive characters seen working problems out in his head before he acts, Cam's a Scorpio through and through.
Sagittarius - Detective McDermott
Often defined by their insatiable curiosity, it's no stretch to assume Detective McDermott to be a Sagittarius. Doggedly tracking Rhodes' odious plot, McDermott's curiosity gets the best of him when he gets too close and becomes the subject of medical experimentation.
Moreover, during his investigation, McDermott shows smarts as he collates clues that lead him to Rhodes, remains loyal to finding answers, and asserts himself every step of the way. All told, McDermott is the most discerning Sagittarius on the show.
Capricorn - Herb
Often listed as one of the most rebellious zodiac signs, Herb's insistent refrain to nix every plan and simply leave town before it's too late certainly applies to Capricorn. While everyone else unwisely wished to stay in town to fight off zombie hordes, Herb made his desire to get the heck out of dodge loud and clear.
When push comes to shove and Herd decides to stay in town, he further shows Capricorn traits by organizing a practical barricade along with Pops, using his goal-oriented nature to help protect others.
Aquarius - Luke Bowman
As the smartest and most sensitive character on the popular zombie TV show, Luke Bowman is almost positively an Aquarius. His sympathetic arc entails learning the identity of his true biological father, which makes him rethink his whole existence. The emotionally fraught teen favors solving problems with his mind rather than facing physical confrontation, yet is no less effective.
In addition to having a heightened awareness as most Aquarians do, Luke largely remains optimistic in his quest for the truth despite having every reason to be pessimistic. In the end, Luke is able to uncover the truth about his family.
Pisces - Jai Fisher
Jai Fisher is the new town doctor and fiance of Amy. He's a man who has dedicated his life to healing, protecting, and nursing other humans. The emotionally sensitive caretaker is also extremely intelligent, setting him up as a potential Pisces.
Wise, gentle, and instinctual, Jai does his best on the show to sew up gnarly zombie wounds that almost always lead to reanimation. Jai's unparalleled sympathy for others is what gives him such a clear-cut Piscean personality.
