As Dawson's Creek aired from 1998 until 2003, the characters missed out on having cell phones and using social media. The show was still a groundbreaking teen drama that explored friendship, love and growing up, but it would have been fascinating to see how Dawson and his pals used smartphones, Twitter, and Instagram.

Some characters are more loveable than others but everyone in Capeside would definitely act differently if they had access to these things. It would be great to see Dawson exploring his love of movies through the internet, and his friends and love interests would also use social media in their own unique ways.

Dawson Would Have Become An Influencer

Dawson is sweet, romantic, and movie-obsessed. If he had Instagram, he would definitely become an influencer.

Dawson would likely have a few posts and videos go viral as he would re-watch his favorite Spielberg movies and people would love his intelligent analysis. It would be especially impressive that he was only in high school and he had such a handle on the themes and meaning behind these stories. Before too long, Dawson would be famous and companies would pay him to promote some products, and he would have a lot of fun connecting with other movie fans.

Joey Would Have An Instagram She Rarely Used (Except To Pine Over Dawson)

Joey is a smart person who can be cynical, which means that she wouldn't love social media as much as Dawson.

She would create an Instagram account, fill out a vague bio, put up a profile photo, and post a few random pictures of nature or the creek. She would eventually become bored and would rather read a book or study than spend hours scrolling her feed. But Joey would love checking in on Dawson online because in the early days of the show, she was hopelessly in love with him. She would like and comment on all of his posts.

Jen Would Get In Trouble From Her Social Media Posts

Intelligent wild child Jen moved to Capeside after her parents caught her having sex in their bed. If social media had existed when Dawson's Creek was on the air, maybe her mom and dad would have seen her social media accounts and learned that she was out and about in New York City, acting years beyond her age.

When she moved to Capeside, Jen would keep tweeting and sharing posts on Instagram, and her Grams definitely wouldn't approve. They would likely get into even more arguments at the beginning of the show. Grams would tell her to spend less time online and more time getting fresh air and studying.

Joey And Pacey Would Text Before Falling In Love

Joey had a tough decision choosing between Pacey and Dawson. While she might have never imagined she would fall for Dawson's silly and goofy best pal, she soon realized that they got along better than she anticipated.

If Joey and Pacey had smartphones, they would have texted for weeks before they finally kissed, began dating, and fell madly in love. They would have enjoyed bantering back and forth and would have stayed up late, unable to stop talking to each other. This would have been perfect since no one would find out and they could keep their growing feelings hidden.

Dawson Would Have A YouTube Channel

YouTube started in 2005, and since Dawson's Creek stopped airing in 2003, Dawson didn't get the chance to explore this media.

But it's easy to imagine Dawson having his own YouTube channel and using this platform to post short films. This would help him get attention and maybe he would even get approached about more film festivals. Dawson's movie career might have started even earlier if he had access to YouTube, and perhaps he would have gotten a cool job right out of high school and skipped the idea of film school.

Pacey Would Tweet Jokes And Funny Observations During Class

Pacey is totally underestimated and while he hated school and didn't think much about his future beyond high school, he is much smarter than others realize.

If Pacey was tweeting on Dawson's Creek, he would tweet hilarious jokes and observations when he was supposed to be paying attention during class. He would much rather spend time on Twitter than listening to the teacher and he would probably be sent to the principal's office a few times for using his smartphone too much.

Bessie Could Promote Her Bed And Breakfast And Become More Successful

Since Joey lived with her older sister Bessie, she helped out when Bessie started a bed and breakfast, and everyone pitched in during the season 3 episode "A Weekend in the Country."

A reporter loved the place and his positive review helped the B&B do well. But it seems like if Bessie could promote her place on social media, she would have gotten even more attention and made more money. The critic would have also posted their review on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.

Joey And Dawson Could Have Stayed In Touch Better After High School

Dawson and Joey always stayed close and yet when they graduated from high school, there were periods of time when they weren't in close contact.

In the season 6 premiere, viewers found out that Joey and Dawson hadn't communicated all summer, and they didn't know what was happening with each other. If they had smartphones, it seems likely that they would have texted a few times, and they would have checked in on social media, too.

Jen Would Have Learned Charlie Was Cheating Via Social Media

Jen was charmed by Charlie until she realized that he was also dating Nora. The two teamed up to teach him a lesson, and it was a perfect storyline.

If Jen had access to social media, it seems likely that she would have found out about Charlie and Nora much sooner, and Nora might have learned about Jen earlier, too. When they wanted to get revenge, maybe they would have posted a video of them together on Instagram stories, and Charlie would have been even more shocked that they found out.

Grams Would Have Explored Dating Apps

Jen and Grams talking on Dawson's Creek

Some Dawson's Creek storylines were awkward, but Grams deserved a bit more screentime, as she and Jen became very close after initially having trouble understanding each other.

If Grams had a smartphone, she would explore dating apps and begin seeing a very nice person, whom Jen would approve of. This would be life-changing and might help Grams find more peace and happiness in her life, instead of worrying about Jen so much.
