The creator of Dawson's Creek, Kevin Williamson, is also the man behind the original Scream movie. With the first few seasons of Dawson's Creek, the title character's interest in horror movies is made apparent. He writes his own and even attempts a Blair Witch style documentary with his friends. Some episodes of the series even pay homage to slasher flicks.

Many of the cast even appeared in horror movies of the early 2000s while they were breaking into film. With all of that in mind, it's not hard to think of how the main characters of Dawson's Creek would fit right into a horror movie. Not all of the main characters would be savvy enough to make it to the end but would fall prey to plenty of horror movie tropes.

Audrey

Audrey Liddell at the bar in Dawsons Creek

When Audrey is introduced as the main characters head to college, she is a walking horror movie trope - at first. She dives headfirst into partying and tries to find herself in the boys she dates.

Because Audrey is Joey's roommate, the two don't always see eye-to-eye, but they do become close friends. Their opposing personalities lend well to the dichotomy of best friends in horror movies. One is the serious studious one, and the other is the partier who doesn't make it beyond the first act. Audrey would be the latter, not given the chance for the character arc she gets in the series.

Andi

Andie McPhee Dawsons Creek

Andi only appears in the series for a couple of seasons. She leaves during the high school years, going her own way. While Andi is one of the most "book smart" of the characters in the series, she isn't the one most likely to outsmart the killer.

Instead, one of Andi's most common traits in the series - her nervousness in new situations - would probably get the better of her. She would likely become overwhelmed by the unexpected situation at hand, either following her friends' lead right into a trap or being cornered by the slasher herself.

Dawson

James Van Der Beek as Dawson Leery

Despite the series being named for Dawson, it's most definitely an ensemble show. It even proves that it can survive without him when he disappears to California while the rest of the characters remain in New England.

Dawson would absolutely be the surprise death most people don't see coming at the beginning of the movie. His death would likely come after a visit to Joey or his discovery of someone else's body before the rest of the characters figure out what's happening.

Dougie

It's rare for law enforcement officers to make it to the end of a horror movie - especially if they're related to one of the main characters. Big brother to Pacey, Dougie is one character who is likely marked for early death.

Dougie is also the type of character who wouldn't believe his little brother and his friends if they told him a masked killer was running around town. His skepticism would be rewarded with him only discovering the killer when they ended his life.

Pacey

Dawsons Creek Pacey

Pacey would absolutely survive longer than his big brother. Despite having one of the best character arcs in the series, however, in Dawson's Creek, Pacey is also primarily comic relief, making him a character with a target on his back in modern slasher flicks.

The comedic character lasts just long enough in a movie for someone to believe they're safe. They make it long enough to go from sarcastic quips to scared silly. Then they become a lesson in taking the killer seriously, just like the person who didn't believe there was one in the first place.

Jack

Jack McPhee Dawsons Creek

Of the men in the world of Dawson's Creek, Jack is probably the one most likely to survive. He's more observant than his peers, and he's definitely not going to leave a friend behind when they're in trouble. Jack does, however, fall into the same slippery slope of Audrey when it comes to tropes.

When Jack goes to college, he becomes the exact opposite of his high school self. He tries to fit in, almost flunks out of school and attends more parties than classes. If he allows himself to be too easily influenced by the popular kids, Jack is no more.

Bessie

Bessie Potter With Joey Dawsons Creek

Bessie essentially raises Joey after their mom dies and their father ends up in prison. She's responsible, hard-working, and doesn't tolerate anybody talking down to her family. Bessie sees a lot of struggle, but she eventually opens up her own bed and breakfast while her boyfriend becomes a chef.

While Bessie could meet the killer in a horror movie, she's a survivor. She doesn't let anyone's perception of her or any statistics about her socioeconomic status keep her down. Bessie finds a way to keep going. She's the type of character the audience would think the killer got to, dealing a huge blow to whoever was left but would emerge in critical condition to return for the sequel.

Jen

Dawsons-Creek-Jen

Jen has the makings of a Scream Queen, which is one of the reasons why Dawson casts her in his student film when she first moves to town. She's not a fan of jump scares or being pranked, but she is someone who will take matters into her own hands when she thinks someone is after her.

When a boy pursues her by leaving her creepy notes and flowers anonymously, Jen doesn't take too kindly to it and starts trying to figure out who it is. She also makes sure to give them a piece of her mind when she gets silent phone calls. Jen isn't someone who sits back and lets a killer torment her, which is why she's likely to make it pretty far - if not to the end - of a horror flick.

Joey

Joey and Dawson sit on his bed while discussing the future in Dawson's Creek

Joey is a bit like the stereotypical final girls of horror movies in the '80s and '90s. She's serious instead of a partier, she can be quiet when she needs to be, but ha a wicked sense of sarcasm when she's pushed, and she's the girl next door.

If any character is making it to the end of the movie, it's Joey. Like her big sister, she's a survivor. She holds a lot of her anger inside, but when she's prompted to lash out, she certainly doesn't hold back. Not only did she send her dad back to prison in one episode, but she also fought off a creep in the school library, so she's already part-way there.

Grams

Grams glaring in Dawson's Creek

Grams definitely doesn't fit the final girl stereotypes, but Evelyn Ryan is not to be trifled with. She makes such a massive turn around over the course of the series. When Jen first comes to live with her, Grams is closed-minded and harsh with her granddaughter, but the two open up to one another.

That severity never fully goes away, however, and there are plenty of characters who are a tiny bit afraid of her. She'd definitely be able to take on the slasher behind the mask and live to tell the tale. Grams would be a fantastic final girl.
