WARNING: This article contains SPOILERS for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.David Dastmalchian returns in Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, but not in the role he's been previously known for. Scott Lang is joined by several familiar faces in his trek across the Quantum Realm, but noticeably missing is his crew of ex-convict friends. Perhaps the subatomic journey would’ve been a bit much for Luis, Kurt and Dave, so they were rightfully left out of the film.

The MCU is no stranger to reusing actors in different roles, like Gemma Chan starring as Sersi in Eternals after playing Minn-Erva in Captain Marvel. However, David Dastmalchian is one of the only to have played two characters in the same trilogy. Voicing the character Veb, Dastmalchian’s new role is a nice nod to the first two films.

Who & What Is Veb, Is David Dastmalchian's New Character From The Comics

Veb in Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania

Veb is a pink slime-like creature introduced in Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania that lives in the Quantum Realm. Part of the Freedom Fighters with Jentorra and Quaz, Veb was displaced by Kang the Conqueror’s destruction. Veb is an MCU original character and with no comic counterpart, it’s hard to know exactly who or what he is. When Scott and Cassie first land in the Quantum Realm, they are found by the Freedom Fighters and fed a goo-like liquid that Veb claims came from him. This allows Scott and Cassie to understand their language, showcasing that Veb must have powers of some sort in his DNA.

Veb serves as the comic relief in Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, but his ties to the Freedom Fighters could potentially give him a larger role in the future. Jentorra, the leader-like figure of the Freedom Fighters, was originally in the comics as part of the Micronauts, a warrior group from the Microverse. With so many similarities between the Microverse and the Quantum Realm, the Freedom Fighters could be considered the MCU’s nod to the Micronauts. While Veb is an MCU original, his character very much could’ve been inspired by one of the Micronauts members.

Why Does David Dastmalchian Play A New Character (What Happened To Kurt)

Kurt talking on the phone in Ant-Man.

Despite David Dastmalchian’s new role, Kurt is likely still alive and well on Earth. Although the X-Con Security Consultants trio has been a big help to Scott in the past, the Quantum Realm may be the one place that is beyond their reach. Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania is already a completely different film than its predecessor with its mostly Quantum Realm setting, but the removal of past comic relief characters shows just how serious and high the stakes in Quantumania are.

Kurt is a well-loved character from the Ant-Man trilogy and although his absence in Quantumania may be a disappointment to some, the film has no shortage of David Dastmaichian’s comic relief. Veb is an MCU original character who may have served a minor role, but his connections to the Freedom Fighters could potentially give him a larger role in the future. The MCU loves to capitalize off of their comedic characters, so there’s no doubt that both Veb and Kurt will somehow return past Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania.
