New David Bowie fan art turns the singer into Batman and numerous other pop culture icons. While Bowie is rightfully remembered as one of the most influential musical artists, he also enjoyed a remarkable film career. His screen debut came in 1976's The Man Who Fell to Earth, which was soon after his first number-one single "Fame" began topping charts, establishing Bowie as a dual talent. He followed that up with leading roles in Just a Gigolo, The Hunger, and Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence.
One of his most memorable roles came in the 1986 musical fantasy film Labyrinth, in which he played Jareth, the king of the goblins. Bowie also had a few memorable supporting roles and cameos throughout this career, including the Twin Peaks prequel movie, Fire Walk with Me, The Last Temptation of Christ, Zoolander, and The Prestige. In 2016, the actor and singer passed away after a long battle with liver cancer, a diagnosis which he kept private.

Bowie likely could have embodied any of these characters with conviction, including the Caped Crusader and his most iconic nemesis, given his penchant for performing. Though he never got the chance to portray either, Bowie was championed by screenwriter Sam Hamm to play the Joker in Tim Burton's 1989 Batman movie. That role, of course, eventually went to Jack Nicholson, who delivered a brilliant performance, though it's hard not to wonder what Bowie could have done with the role, especially the dance sequence in the art museum.
Bowie was a unique artist who was able to pair his chameleonic musical career with an equally remarkable filmography that included collaborations with auteurs like Martin Scorsese, David Lynch, and Christopher Nolan. His artistry is not only eternalized with his performances on screen, but his music added an indescribable panache and poignance to many movies. Most recently, Ridley Scott's The Martian and James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy, the latter director known for his on-point soundtrack choices. Hopefully, this fan art will go towards helping to remember the incredible life and work of David Bowie.
