Harrison Ford’s gobsmacked reaction to David Blaine’s magic trick is just about the funniest thing ever. Magician and illusionist David Blaine has been blowing people’s minds with his awe-inspiring magic tricks and death-defying stunts since the late 1990s. Like a modern-day Harry Houdini, Blaine’s stunts include being suspended in a Plexiglas case above the River Thames in London for 44 days while surviving only on water and catching a .22 caliber bullet in his mouth. His latest stunt saw him float at an altitude of almost 25,000 feet while harnessed to a cluster of 52 helium-filled balloons in the skies above Arizona’s Great Basin Desert.
As amazing and dangerous as David Blaine’s big stunts are, some of his most entertaining antics are the seemingly simpler magic tricks he performs for both public figures and people on the street. His card tricks, levitation shtick and ability to regurgitate everything from live frogs and goldfish to David Beckham’s wedding ring might rely on sleight of hand, misdirection and some pretty impressive esophageal control, but seeing him leave his rapt audience bewildered is pure entertainment.
In 2013 ABC aired the 90-minute special David Blaine: Real Or Magic in which Star Wars legend Harrison Ford became one of the latest celebrities to be wowed by the illusionist’s magical prowess. The clip takes place in Ford’s own kitchen and sees Blaine ask the actor to pick a card at random from a standard deck which then turns up in a very strange place. Ford is so amazed and freaked out by the trick he tells Blaine to “Get the ***k out of my house.” Watch the mind-blowing magic trick below.
As stunned as Harrison Ford was, the trick is apparently relatively straightforward – at least according to a couple of websites that try to debunk the inner workings behind these kinds of tricks. The general consensus is that David Blaine directed the Han Solo actor to pick the card he did – the nine of hearts – through the power of suggestion and inserted said card into the piece of fruit via some crafty sleight of hand work after slicing it open.
Harrison Ford wasn’t the only celebrity David Blaine left astounded on Real Or Magic. He also nearly made Breaking Bad stars Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul throw up their lunches by sticking an ice pick through his hand, shocked pop star Katy Perry by pulling a live baby alligator from her purse and wowed former president George W. Bush with another card trick – although the latter probably wasn’t all that hard to deceive.
