Warning! Spoilers ahead for Obi-Wan Kenobi episode 6
Darth Vader's final line to his old master in Obi-Wan Kenobi is one of pure rage, serving as a dynamic callback to Kenobi's future and ultimate duel with Darth Maul on the sands of Tatooine. While the new Star Wars series features Obi-Wan facing his fallen apprentice a decade after their duel on Mustafar in Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, Kenobi confronts his original nemesis, Darth Maul, a few years later, as seen in the animated series Star Wars Rebels. Both foes hate Obi-Wan with a passion, and nothing proves that more than Darth Vader's last line to Obi-Wan following his defeat at the end of Obi-Wan Kenobi.
In Obi-Wan Kenobi episode 6, Kenobi is finally ready to let go of his past and rebalance himself in the Force as the Jedi he once was. This allows him to face Darth Vader with a renewed strength in the finale after luring the Dark Lord away from Princess Leia and the resistance cell - getting her to the safety known as The Path. Facing each other alone, Kenobi eventually emerged the victor after damaging Vader's life support armor and helmet. Seeing the man behind the mask and following an incredibly emotional exchange where Vader confirmed he wasn't Kenobi's failure, Obi-Wan recognizes that the Jedi he once knew as Anakin Skywalker is truly dead and gone.
However, the Sith Lord screams Obi-Wan's name in rage as Kenobi leaves, choosing not to kill Darth Vader. Similarly, Maul was likewise obsessed with Obi-Wan during this era between trilogies, scouring the galaxy in search of the Jedi who had caused him so much pain. As seen in the Star Wars Rebels episode "Twin Suns," Maul returns to Tatooine. Wandering the desert searching for the Jedi, Maul eventually screams out Kenobi's name with just as much rage as Darth Vader before him in Obi-Wan Kenobi's finale. As such, this new connection between Kenobi's two biggest villains feels incredibly intentional. Vader screams the Jedi's first name while Maul screams his last, and both scenes are full of primal rage captured by mirrored long shots of the respective Sith.
Obi-Wan and Maul also had an emotional exchange after their duel, with Kenobi holding Maul as he died, confirming that he was protecting the Chosen One (with Luke being an extension of Anakin's redemption). As such, the mirrored nature of Kenobi's duels with Darth Vader and Darth Maul proves both villains carried the same weakness: the obsessive and all-consuming desire for revenge against Kenobi above all else. Furthermore, it's also resonant of the classic George Lucas philosophy that Star Wars should be like poetry and is meant to rhyme with repeated stanzas for its characters.
While Vader yelling after Obi-Wan is a heartbreaking moment on its own, it's made even more dynamic when considering the greater context of the Star Wars timeline and how Maul's duel with Kenobi so perfectly mirrors this new chapter. Both villains are extremely broken and were corrupted by the dark side of the Force, relying on it to bury their pain and loss while using Kenobi as a focal point for their respective rage. As such, the callback to Darth Maul in Obi-Wan Kenobi's finale is one of the series' best moments - and draws an indelible connection between two of Kenobi's greatest foes.
