Warning! Spoilers ahead for Obi-Wan Kenobi episode 6.

While Darth Vader's broken mask in the Obi-Wan Kenobi finale mirrors his reunion with Ahsoka Tano in Star Wars Rebels, it's not the only connection that can be formed between the two duels. While this new series sees Darth Vader encountering his old master for the first time since their battle on Mustafar, he eventually reunites with his old apprentice a few years later in the Star Wars continuity. As such, it seems as though Vader's new duel with Obi-Wan greatly informed his interactions with Ahsoka on the Sith world of Malachor.

In Obi-Wan Kenobi episode 6, Obi-Wan decided to let go of his past. This allowed him to become rebalanced in the Force and become the Jedi he once was. Having the strength to face his fallen apprentice, Kenobi and Darth Vader faced each other alone. By the end of their duel, Kenobi had damaged Vader's life support armor and broken half of his mask, a very similar outcome seen in the Dark Lord's future duel with Ahsoka Tano in the animated Star Wars Rebels series. As such, it's now canon that the two Jedi closest to Anakin Skywalker both saw the man beneath the mask following his transformation into Darth Vader.

However, the similarities between Darth Vader's respective Jedi reunions go even further. Not only do both duels feature incredibly emotional exchanges (Obi-Wan apologizing to Anakin and Ahsoka refusing to leave him), but Darth Vader views both his old master and former apprentice the same way. Obi-Wan and Ahsoka both represent the Jedi he once was before his corruption to the dark side of the Force. As such, they're living reminders of the past he's tried to bury, opposing the idea that he killed Anakin Skywalker as Darth Vader. As such, Vader tells them both the exact same thing after Obi-Wan says he'll do what he must (a callback to their Revenge of the Sith duel) and Ahsoka refuses to leave: "Then you will die".

Obi-Wan-And-Ahsoka-Reacting-To-Darth-Vader

Darth Vader was just as willing to kill both Ahsoka and Obi-Wan Kenobi. Furthermore, it can now be inferred that by saying this same line to his apprentice a few years later, Darth Vader was likely thinking of his prior duel with Kenobi, recognizing the equal significance of this new reunion as he attempted to destroy Ahsoka. Burying his past as Anakin during this era between trilogies, it makes sense that Vader would want both Jedi dead. As Darth Vader, they only remind him of the pain and loss he endured (with Kenobi particularly being a focal point for his rage).

While Kenobi and Ahsoka would both survive their dark reunions with Darth Vader, the fact remains that he would have destroyed them without hesitation. Thanks to the events of Obi-Wan Kenobithis new connection between Kenobi and Ahsoka is huge considering Vader's ongoing transition between trilogies, falling further into the dark side before the events of A New Hope. Darth Vader's mask breaking is simply the tip of the iceberg as it relates to the poetically tragic symmetry featured in both Star Wars duels.
