Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Darth Vader #30

In the latest issue of Marvel Comics' Darth Vader, the Dark Lord of the Sith implies that his late wife Padmé Amidala would have been on his side. With recent issues featuring the return of Padmé's handmaidens who now call themselves the Amidalans, Lord Vader has already managed to corrupt Sabé to his cuase in the name of order. Now, he's seeking to enlist the rest of Amidala's most trusted allies.

In the new Darth Vader #30 from Greg Pak and Luke Ross, Sabé is on a mission for Darth Vader to kill Jul Tambor while Dormé and the rest of Padmé's handmaids infiltrate The Executor, Vader's flagship. While they were in search of Sabé to try and rescue her, they instead find Vader himself who reveals Sabé's new allegiance. Offering them the same chance to serve him as well, the Dark Lord uses Padmé's memory to convince the Amidalans. Although they've tried to kill him in the past, they seem to be swayed by Vader's claim that Padmé's belief in order would have seen her joining him had she lived.

Darth Vader Believes Padmé Would Have Joined Him (Is He Wrong?)

Darth Vader Recruits Padmé's Handmaids

While Padmé's handmaidens eventually decide to join Vader on his rescue mission to save Sabé who's been captured by the still-living Tambor, it seems Vader is ignoring the means by which he achieves said order. Despite his belief that Padmé would have joined him, the Dark Lord is likely lying to himself. It's very hard to believe that Padmé would have supported achieving order through oppression and force as the Empire has. That being said, "order" is something Vader has clung to for several issues, believing that it gives him some level of superiority over his master Darth Sidious.

At any rate, Vader currently has the full set of Padmé's handmaids in his service. However, it's very much a temporary alliance seeing as how the Amidalans are only interested in saving Sabé. They're ready and willing to blow up Vader's flagship should he decide to cross them, having hacked into his armor and command codes during their past encounter on Naboo.

That being said, the Dark Lord now has time to corrupt the Amidalans even further just as he has with Sabé. However, Sabé's entire motivation in helping Vader achieve order has been trying to spare worlds from his wrath. Either way, Darth Vader's claim that Padmé would have joined him in an alternate Star Wars future where is intrinsically false. Darth Vader #30 is on sale now from Marvel Comics.
