Darkseid Revealed by Zack Snyder in New Justice League Image

Ousted Justice League director Zack Snyder continues to reveal imagery from his cut, this time confirming the presence of DC villain Darkseid. The troubled production of the DCEU's equivalent to The Avengers is infamous at this point, with many fans ending up vocally displeased with the theatrical cut ultimately delivered by replacement director Joss Whedon. Those same upset fans have of course made it their mission to demand Warner Bros. release Snyder's original cut of the film, although it's still unclear just how complete a version of it even exists, despite Snyder being well into post-production when he departed the project.

In recent months, Snyder has taken to his Vero to release lots of material from his Justice League cut, including concept art, bits from deleted scenes, and other juicy details. While fans may never actually get a full-on Snyder Cut of the film - Justice League stands as the DCEU's lowest-grossing film after all - Snyder's social media reveals have at least allowed those pining for such a release to get a better idea of what his vision would've involved.

Now, Snyder has dropped arguably the biggest bombshell related to his cut of Justice League to date, that being the first image of Darkseid from the film. Darkseid has long been thought to have played a major role in Snyder's cut, but the director has mostly steered clear of confirming the arch DC villain's presence, until now. As usual, Snyder revealed the image via his Vero account. Included below are a screenshot of his post, and a close-up look at Darkseid.

The first indication of just how big Darkseid's role was originally intended to be in Justice League came back in February, when a storyboard from Snyder's cut of the film surfaced, showing what appeared to be the villain standing in the apocalyptic future glimpsed during Batman V Superman's Knightmare sequence. It's also known that Darkseid was originally set to appear during Justice League's rather abrupt ending, following the final battle with Steppenwolf, who had been working on Darkseid's behalf. Instead, Steppenwolf was made the sole villain, and Darkseid only got a few vague references made to him in the film.

Interestingly, the above image also reveals the missing fourth wall of the invasion mural seen here, confirming that the history lesson was originally planned to focus on Darkseid and not Steppenwolf. It's also the reverse angle of a shot Snyder revealed on Gal Gadot's birthday, which featured Diana holding a torch up to look at something. With Snyder's official confirmation of Darkseid's involvement in Justice League's plot, one wonders what he'll choose to reveal next.
