Zack Snyder’s Justice League finally brought the DCEU its version of Thanos, an all-powerful intergalactic conqueror of worlds. Unlike Thanos, who claimed he was trying to save the universe with his action, Darkseid wanted nothing more than to conquer worlds and rule them all with an iron fist, destroying anyone that defied him. This makes him one of DC Comics’ most dangerous villains.

While Darkseid never showed up to battle Earth’s heroes in the DCEU, comic book stories have shown how dangerous he is. The ruling lord of Apokolips came as close as anyone to conquer Earth. His goal was to find the Anti-Life Equation, which would put all living beings under his rule. Along the way, he became DC’s evilest villain.

Darkseid Killed The Old Gods

In Darkseid #1 by Greg Pak and Paulo Siqueira, readers learned how the farmer named Uxas eventually became Darkseid. He lived on a planet where its citizens honored and worshipped the Old Gods without question. However, Uxas learned that these Old Gods lived on the prayers of mortals and he tried to sway people’s feelings, only to end up banished.

Uxas then had the idea to start a war between the Old Gods and as they killed each other, he revealed his plan was to steal their powers for himself and became Darkseid.

Darkseid Corrupted Desaad

Desaad was, at one time, a boy who lived in New Genesis. However, Darkseid tormented and turned this boy into a vengeful servant. The way Darkseid did this was horrific.

Desaad had a pet cat and a pet bird and Darkseid told him the cat killed the bird. Desaad buried the cat alive as punishment. When the bird returned, Desaad killed it in anger and then left for Apokolips with Darkseid, eventually becoming his master torturer.

Darkseid Killed The Woman Who Saw His Good Side

Darkseid prides himself on his evil ways and wants nothing to soften his reputation. This means that, even if Darkseid grows reflective and questions his motives, no one should see this. If anyone realizes Darkseid has a weakness of any sort, that person won’t live much longer.

In 2007’s Countdown #40 by Paul Dini and Tony Bedard, one of Darkseid’s servants saw emotion on his face. He killed her instantly. No one could see Darkseid’s vulnerability and live to tell anyone.

Darkseid Killed His Own Brother

As mentioned, Darkseid’s actual name is Uxas, and he was a farmer who realized the Old Gods didn’t care about his people. Darkseid then realized his people didn’t deserve to live any more than the Old Gods and he set out to bring everything down around him.

In Jack Kirby’s Fourth World #4 by John Byrne, he had a different origin. Uxas was a prince and the second in line to the throne. His brother Drax was trying to master the Omega Effect to use it for good, and Uxas killed him and used it to become Darkseid. He also killed his mother after this.

Darkseid Used Daxamites As Soldiers

Darkseid is a villain that lasted throughout time, and this includes the future. The Legion of Super-Heroes is a team from the future that DC Comics fans met thanks to Superboy flying into the future to train with them.

In the Great Darkness Saga in 1982 by Paul Levitz and Keith Giffen, the Legion battled a mysterious villain that ended up as Darkseid in the 30th Century. In this series, he conquered the planet Daxam and turned all its citizens into unwilling soldiers that devastated countless other worlds.

Batman Died Fighting Darkseid

Final Crisis saw the heroes of Earth finally united to battle the evil Darkseid, and they almost lost to him. Even more devastating is that one of Earth’s greatest heroes died to stop Darkseid.

Batman realized that none of the heroes, not even Superman, could beat Darkseid, as he had grown too powerful. It forced Batman to break his own rule and used a gun and the radion bullet Darkseid used to kill Orion. Darkseid responded with the Omega Sanction and killed Batman.

Darkseid Devastated Themyscira

All the dead Amazon warriors Daarkseid killed.

Uxas took the Old Gods’ powers from his world when he became Darkseid. However, he wanted more power. There are other gods in the world and that includes the Greek gods from which Wonder Woman comes. In Wonder Woman #104 by John Byrne, Darkseid wanted their powers.

Darkseid Devastated New Genesis

Darkseid in Apokolips in DC Comics.

Justice League of America #183 by Gerry Conway, Dick Dillin, and George Perez showed what Darkseid did to the peaceful world of New Genesis. In the beginning, New Genesis and Apokolips were twin worlds, one peaceful and prosperous and the other ravaged and evil.

Darkseid ruled Apokolips and in this book, the New Gods called for help from the Justice League and Justice Society when Darkseid kidnapped and enslaved the remaining population of New Genesis and started a war where he set out to destroy Earth-2.

Darkseid Used Anti-Life Equation

Darkseid has control of all humans with Anti-Life equation.

Zack Snyder’s Justice League explained the Anti-Life Equation. In 2008’s Final Crisis by Grant Morrison and J.G. Jones, Darkseid achieved this goal and put the entire Earth under his control with the Anti-Life Equation.

Even more impressive was that Darkseid did this after his son Orion killed him, and his essence went throughout the world, enslaving Earth. He planned to move on to the next universe until the Justice League finally stopped him.

Darkseid Tried To Destroy Multiverse In Final Crisis

Darkseid preparing to destroy the mutliverse.

Darkseid’s goal was to conquer the entire universe, and that moved on to the multiverse. Once Darkseid had Earth under his control with the Anti-Life Equation, it was time to move on to the multiverse. This happened when Darkseid returned and the Justice League stopped him and killed him again.

This time, he used his last moments of life as a goal to take everyone with him, where he attempted to destroy it once and for all. Darkseid felt if he died, everything in existence should die with him, and only Superman’s Miracle Machine saved the multiverse, while also changing everything at the same time.
