During Final Crisis, the malevolent Darkseid turned Justice League hero Wonder Woman into his greatest servant. Infecting Diana with a special virus, the returning New God not only made her a contributor to his takeover of Earth, but also the leader of his new Furies, enforcing his dark will against the heroes who had managed to resist his control. Sporting a frightening new mask and mentality, Wonder Woman became another symbol of hope corrupted by Darkseid's evil, acting as a time bomb intended to guarantee his victory.

In the story by Grant Morrison and a bullpen of talented artists including J.G. Jones, Carlos Pacheco, and Doug Mahnke, Darkseid's spirit has found a new home in a human form, allowing him to amass a considerable supervillain army in secret. After the body of New God Orion is found, the Justice League and Green Lantern Corps investigate his murder, with Hal Jordan framed as the primary suspect. With Batman taken off the board for getting too close to the truth, Darkseid and his allies continue to systematically prevent the Justice League members from ruining their upcoming plans. While investigating the ruins of Bludhaven, Wonder Woman comes across a corrupted Mary Marvel, possessed by Darkseid's underling Desaad. As they fight, Mary infects Wonder Woman with a unique strain of the Morticoccous bacteria, revealing Darkseid's plan for Diana to be a plague vector.

One month later, a majority of humanity has fallen under the control of the Anti-Life Equation, while many superheroes under the influence have become new soldiers in Darkseid's army, called the Justifiers. Wally West and Barry Allen return to Earth, only to be discovered by the new Female Furies led by Wonder Woman. Although the Flashes manage to escape, the new Furies are shown to be a fierce squadron acting out Darkseid's wishes, as he holds their abilities in high regard. While Superman carries out a vital mission and Batman attempts to assassinate Darkseid, Wonder Woman remains loyal and later releases her dormant virus to the heroes she once fought alongside, which begins to strip them of their powers.

Wonder Woman's divinity and warrior background make her the ideal choice as leader of his Female Furies, but Darkseid takes his corruption of her one step further by making her his walking time bomb. Diana's embrace of the Anti-Life Equation has her wearing a more militaristic version of her uniform complete with a ghoulish mask, glowing red eyes, and scars all over her back. Wonder Woman is considered one of the Justice League's most powerful members, and an Ambassador of Peace, so Darkseid deliberately perverts that by making her his loyal servant and a secret weapon of war. Darkseid saw Final Crisis as his last chance to exert control over reality, and all others as mere extensions of his will.

While other heroes suffer due to Wonder Woman's sickness, Darkseid loses this advantage when Diana is attacked by Frankenstein, who is immune to the virus, right around the time the heroes successfully free the people of Earth from the Anti-Life Equation's thrall. Casting aside the memory of being under Darkseid's rule, Wonder Woman's Lasso of Truth helps to ensnare the villain and end his dark reign. Diana's time serving Darkseid not only proved how strong his willpower is, but also how much of a threat Wonder Woman is when forced to cast aside morality and unleash her full power in the name of evil.
