Stephen King's The Dark Tower is coming to life on the big screen later this summer - and very soon, we will have a trailer to prove it. Over the course of 8 novels, Roland "The Gunslinger" Deschain has carried out his quest to find the titular tower in King's genre-bending fantasy/sci-fi/horror/Western. The big screen adaptation has been met with various production stops and starts, including shifting release dates and a musical chairs game of key creative players.

To date, only a handful of Dark Tower movie images and a poster have been released, as part of Sony's promotional efforts.  Now, the long journey from page to screen is starting to come to life, with three motion posters appearing online focusing on three fan-favorite characters in the film. Also, while you drool over these little glimpses into The Gunslinger's dark world, it has been confirmed that the first trailer for the movie will drop tomorrow (Wednesday, May 3rd).

The motion posters (see them below) feature Idris Elba as Roland, Matthew McConaughey as The Man in Black, and Tom Taylor as Jake Chambers. The Roland image gives us exactly what we want - The Gunslinger (Elba looking mighty cool) with gun drawn. The character looks to be in some sort of church (possibly in the town of Tull?), with candles flickering and a lantern swinging in the distance. Smoke billows upward from the presumably recently-shot barrel. The Man in Black motion poster sets McConaughey in a post-apocalyptic New York City street, coldly staring directly at us as street signs flicker and dust flows around the urban decay. Jake Chambers, in the third poster, looks to be surrounded in a post-apocalyptic setting of swinging chains and building debris.

Though the franchise has been adapted and expanded previously in comic book form, this is the first big screen adaptation of The Dark Tower to date. What's been most intriguing of this feature film, however, is the notion that it will not strictly follow the eight book series's narrative.  The Dark Tower footage shown at CinemaCon, as well as interviews with cast and crew have generated positive response from critics and fans.

Tomorrow's highly-anticipated trailer for The Dark Tower comes one month after the trailer for IT, also adapted from a classic by Stephen King, broke online records and surpassed industry expectations of reaction. The trailer tomorrow has been rated in both 2D and 3D formats, which puts it likely before Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 this Friday.

While the trailer is likely to set up the three characters in the motion posters, fans are also eager to see additional details around this non-literal reworkiing of the novels. One character to watch for is Richard Sayre, played by Jackie Earle Haley. Sayre doesn't appear in the book series until the fifth installment, The Wolves of Calla, so this feature film is certainly playing with a potpourri from King's epic saga.

Be sure and check back here on Screen Rant tomorrow, for the first trailer for The Dark Tower!
