A dedicated gaming pro has beaten Dark Souls using a controller literally made of pizza. FromSoftware's notoriously difficult Souls games may be known for providing challenging yet satisfying combat for their players, but never before has a Dark Souls victory tasted quite so good.

The Soulsborne games, which include Demon's Souls, the Dark Souls series, Sekiro, and Bloodborne, can be a tough pill to swallow for novice players. The games require skills, dexterity, and patience to beat, and they don't come with variable difficulty options. However, the ever-growing Souls community is always trying to devise new and complex challenges to make the games even harder than the developer intended. Viral challenges and accomplishments from devoted fans include everything from players defeating Dark Souls while blindfolded to one fan who managed to defeat a Demon's Souls boss with a dance pad.

The latest Dark Souls victory to take the internet by storm comes courtesy of content creator SuperLouis64, who is known for his weird and wonderful gaming challenges. The player took to Twitter to share how he used a real pizza as a controller for the game, turning Dark Souls into what he calls a "Plug-n-Eat" experience. SuperLouis64 explains how different slices are used for different inputs, including an Attack Pizza and a Movement Pizza. Incredibly, eating the pizza actually replenishes in-game health, something which even the PS5 DualSense can't compare with. The skilled player has previously played Demon's Souls with Donkey Kong bongo drums, and played The Legend of  Zelda: Breath of the Wild using a Ring Fit Adventure mod. While a pizza controller might not be to everyone's taste, it does solve the problem of leaving greasy stains on controllers while trying to both play a game and eat. This isn't the first time that creative players have turned food into video game controllers. Earlier this year, a play of Supergiant Games' indie hit Hades beat the game with a pomegranate, paying homage to the in-game fruit which is used to upgrade players' Boons.

Attempting to beat the Dark Souls games with a pizza controller is a good way to help pass the time until the launch of FromSoftware's next title, Elden Ring, which is set to release on January 21, 2022. The highly-anticipated game finally received a new trailer earlier this summer, showing off vast environments, stunning combat, and incredible graphics. While the game could be a more accessible title due to its open-world, which will have areas and bosses that can be beaten or ignored in any order, Elden Ring won't compromise on difficulty, meaning players can expect similar feats to the pizza controller when the game launches next year.
