Netflix releases the first Dark season 3 teaser trailer for their German-language hit show, officially confirming the last season will premiere in a month. The mind-bending sci-fi series premiered on the streamer December 1, 2017, and has been praised by critics for the intricate storyline and well-developed characters. With a plot that frequently moves between different time periods, the show is a puzzle, meticulously organized, yet consistently shocking. After a successful premiere, Netflix quickly renewed Dark for a second season.

Dark takes place in a fictional small town in Germany called Winden, where a young boy recently went missing. When a second boy disappears, it triggers a series of events that unearth deep secrets for four local families, spanning multiple generations. The show mainly follows a teenager named Jonas Kahnwald, whose father recently died by suicide. In the aftermath of that life-changing event, he is thrown headfirst into the mystery behind the other boys' disappearances, unaware just how important he is to it all.

The first Dark season 3 trailer for the final season was released by Netflix today, confirming it will release on June 27. Dark has consistently described the time travel in the story as having three cycles, so it came as no surprise when the creators and Netflix announced there would be a third and final season. The teaser trailer is the first look at the new season coming next month. Dark season 3 will hopefully bring some long-awaited answers to both the characters and fans, and the trailer hints at this, saying, "You'll understand it all...when it's time to understand." Watch the full teaser for Dark's final season below.

Dark has a huge cast, featuring Louis Hofmann as Jonas, Oliver Masucci as Ulrich Nielsen, Karoline Eichhorn as Charlotte Doppler, and Lisa Vicari as Martha Nielsen, among others. The show is created by Baran bo Odor and Jantje Friese, who are currently developing two more series with Netflix. The first is called 1899, about a migrant steamship filled with passengers heading west from London to New York. When they encounter another ship adrift, their trip quickly takes a horrific turn. The other is called Tyll, based on Daniel Kehlmann's novel of the same name. One of Netflix's earliest foreign-language showsDark was the first from Germany. Other great German-language Netflix series that have since come out are How to Sell Drugs Online (Fast) and Babylon Berlin.

An intense mystery, Dark has plenty of hidden clues setting up future (and past) events as it moves along. Many eagle-eyed fans spotted the season 3 release date hinted at in the first episode of season 2. Previously, the creators used another significant date in the show as the release date for season 2: June 21, 2019, or the date Jonas's father died. The timeline in the show is quite convoluted, so it can be hard to keep track of everything that has happened or will happen, but it's worth putting the time and attention in. Netflix's extraordinary science-fiction drama Dark will officially be coming to an end on June 27, with its third and final season.
