Here's the rumor that Juno Temple was set to play Robin/Carrie Kelley in The Dark Knight Rises explored. While Christopher Nolan's reboot Batman Begins was a success, 2008's The Dark Knight was a phenomenon. The sequel - combined with the success of that same year's Iron Man - helped revitalize the comic book movie genre. The Dark Knight's perfect storm of elements, from Heath Ledger's instantly iconic Joker to its commentary on the War on Terror saw it receive both critical acclaim and huge box-office.

In the aftermath of the sequel's success, Nolan switched focus to his dream heist blockbuster Inception. However, it was something of a given he'd return for a third Batman movie, which felt destined not to live up to expectations. Almost a decade on, The Dark Knight Rises has some acclaimed elements of its own, including Tom Hardy's Bane. It's fair to say the consensus is that it's the weakest of the Nolan trilogy, however, and it doesn't gel as neatly as the previous two movies.

As with the previous entries, The Dark Knight Rises assembled an impressive cast, even for the smaller roles. Viewers will likely forget that Ted Lasso star Juno Temple appears in The Dark Knight Rises, where is plays Jen, the sidekick of Selina Kyle. The sequel implies that the two may even be in a romantic relationship, but Temple is left with very little to do. Of course, when she was first cast in an undisclosed role as "a street-smart Gotham girl," rumors quickly spread she was playing Carrie Kelley, a female version of Robin introduced in Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns.

Any cast announced for The Dark Knight Rises back in 2011 tended to lead to wild rumors. Joseph-Gordon Levitt played Officer Blake in The Dark Knight Rises - who becomes a version of Robin during the story - was rumored to be playing villain Alberto Falcone when he was first linked to the movie or even a recast take on The Joker. Most of these rumors were based on very little, though Juno Temple's The Dark Knight Rises role was also linked to Holly Robinson, a comic character who appears to be the main inspiration for the Jen character.

That fact Holly also has "Robin" in her surname may have also helped ignite those rumors too. The final film proved that Juno Temple's The Dark Knight Rises character was never Carrie Kelley or even Catwoman's assistant Holly Robinson, while the actor was left with not much to work with. The same kind of rumors would spring up again a few years later with Jena Malone, who was heavily tipped to be playing Carrie in Batman Vs Superman: Dawn Of Justice. Just like with Juno Temple, Malone was instead underused as a S.T.A.R. Labs scientist Jenet who didn't even make the movie's theatrical cut.
