It's Only Teenage Wasteland is about to fuse the intense mysteries of Lost with the relatable struggles of every great coming of age story. Dark Horse Comics has announced a new miniseries from Curt Pires and Jacoby Salcedo that takes a classic teenage plot and gives it a unique sci-fi makeover.

Writer Curt Pires is no stranger to stories that use intriguing plots to examine the human condition. Pires has previously worked on books such as WYRD, Youth and The Tomorrows, all of which have incorporated elements from multiple genres to create powerfully unique stories. In addition to his work for Dark Horse Comics, Pires has also created several Comixology Originals such as New America, Lost Falls and Memoria. Jacoby Salcedo is also a rising star in the comic world, having created several variant covers for the Image Comics' series Home.

Together, Pires and Salcedo are joining forces to create a new series that promises to take classic teen comedy to the next level. Dark Horse is announcing its new series from Pires and Salcedo, It’s Only Teenage Wasteland, a story about a group of friends doing what teenagers do: trying to scale the ladder of popularity with an outrageous party. The new Dark Horse comic also comes from Mark Dale who provides color with Micah Myers on lettering. Of course, fans can expect more than just usual high-school shenanigans in this exciting series.

When his parents go out of town for the weekend, Mexican-American high schooler Javi decides to throw a party—one that'll launch him and his buds into popularity! Or at least get them noticed by their crushes. But when things take a turn for the worse, Javi and his friends are thrust into a situation and future they could never have prepared for.

Like some of Curt Pires’ previous work for Dark Horse, fans can expect a relatable experience from youth with a high concept veneer. Speaking on the new series, Pires says, “This story is a spiritual sequel to YOUTH in a lot of ways, and I think fans of my work new and old will be pulled into this massive world and mystery we’re building here.” Jacoby Salcedo added that It's Only Teenage Wasteland "is really for everyone, especially readers who love great books!"

Outcasts attempting to improve their social standing by throwing a party on the sly is a tale as old as time. Pires and Salcedo’s new comic for Dark Horse takes a premise that has been a staple of teen comedies for decades and is using it as a jumping off point to craft a sci-fi mystery with themes of self-discovery woven into its premise. What will Javi and his friends discover as the enigma they face slowly unwinds? Fans of Lost-like mysteries will have to see for themselves when Dark Horse Comics releases It's Only Teenage Wasteland #1 on December 7.
