Vincent D'Onofrio hopes Charlie Cox continues to play Daredevil in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the post-Avengers surge of the MCU, Marvel spread content throughout the TV and streaming landscape to capitalize on the popularity. Netflix was early to the movement by making the Defenders corner of the MCU, which saw Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, and Iron Fist get individual shows before a team-up crossover. This wave began with Daredevil, which starred Charlie Cox as the blind lawyer/vigilante.

Daredevil premiered in 2015 and became an instant success due to its more mature tone and content, great action, and top-notch performances. For many, Cox became the definitive version of Daredevil, and the show's loose connectivity to MCU movies left fans wanting to see him make the jump to the big screen. Unfortunately, Daredevil was canceled in 2018 after three seasons. Some have continued to hope that Cox will play the Devil of Hell's Kitchen again, and this desire is shared by co-star Vincent D'Onofrio.

D'Onofrio starred alongside Cox in Daredevil as Wilson Fisk, aka Kingpin, and he wants to see Cox suit up as the Man Without Fear again. The actor recently spoke to Comicbook and discussed the possible future of Kingpin and Daredevil in the MCU. In D'Onofrio's mind, there is no one else who should play Daredevil in an MCU besides Cox.

"The obvious one, which is Daredevil, I still believe in Charlie Cox as Daredevil. And I think that if they do a Daredevil film or have a Daredevil in one of their films, I only hope that it's Charlie, because I believe in him as Daredevil, I loved working with that guy."

Daredevil season 3 finale Kingpin

The desire to see Cox play the Man Without Fear again might be shared by fans and D'Onofrio, but Cox has been must more hesitant to believe he'll get this chance. He previously said that he expects Marvel Studios will recast Daredevil if they plan to use the character in an upcoming project, rather than bring him back. Marvel is just now closing in on the time when they'll legally be allowed to develop plans for the character after the Netflix cancellation, and as great of a Daredevil as Cox was, making him part of the MCU properly would require the MCU to make every Netflix-Marvel show and its characters canon.

If D'Onofrio does get his wish to see Cox play Daredevil in the MCU, he should be even more excited about that decision than fans. The decision to bring Cox back as Matt Murdock would increase the chances of D'Onofrio returning as Kingpin too. Fans have wanted to see both of them in the MCU movies for some time now, and it would be strange for Marvel Studios to bring Cox's Daredevil back and not do the same for D'Onofrio's Kingpin. Once Marvel Studios can begin making plans for Daredevil's MCU future, it might not be too long before we learn whether or not Cox will continue playing him.
