Daredevil star Vincent D'Onofrio responds to WWE superstar The Big Show wanting to play Kingpin in the MCU, joking he wouldn't want to fight him for the role. Kingpin, or Wilson Fisk, remains one of Marvel Comics' most well-known villains. The fearsome crime boss has been represented on the big and small screens multiple times, with the first time coming in the much-maligned 2005 Daredevil. Then, he was played by Michael Clarke Duncan. In 2015, D'Onofrio began his tenure as Kingpin for Netflix's Daredevil, and the character went animated for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse in 2018 (voiced by Leiv Schreiber).

The question on many fans' minds is, will Daredevil and those around him be rebooted for the MCU? While Netflix's Daredevil technically takes place within the universe, there were very few connections within the show to the larger world, and with the show having been canceled, it seems unlikely that the stars of Daredevil will be integrated into the MCU. Back in July, The Big Show shared his desire to play Kingpin in an MCU reboot, even going so far as to call himself a "shoe-in" for the role. This, of course, sparked a conversation online that has now spread to D'Onofrio himself.

D'Onofrio recently spoke to ComicBook.com about this new contender for the Kingpin role, and he wholeheartedly supported The Big Show's aspirations. First, though, he joked that he wouldn't be willing to go up against the wrestler for the role. "No, I wouldn't wrestle that guy," D'Onofrio said. "I've seen the picture of him and stuff, so no, I would not wrestle with him because I would lose that and then lose the character. I think I would just say this, that I believe in actors and I believe an actor should have a shot at whatever they want to try and do, that's what I think." D'Onofrio did go on to give his genuine support, adding this:

If that guy wants to play Kingpin, then f-cking go after Kingpin, give it your all, that's what I would say. That's what I would hope he would say to me too. I mean, I think it's awesome that he's even saying the things he's saying, I think it's ambitious and it's good attitude to have.

Despite Daredevil being canceled back in 2018, there are many fans who are still fighting for its revival. The #SaveDaredevil campaign has persisted over the years, garnering the support of series stars like Charlie Cox and D'Onofrio. So far, Marvel hasn't shared what their plans are for the blind vigilante, though it does seem certain that he won't be appearing in the MCU's Spider-Man 3 despite initial rumors that seemed to suggest otherwise.

With Marvel Studios regaining full rights to Daredevil in just a few months, it seems like there's a good chance the character could be added to the MCU in the future. At this point, however, it's hard to say if he'll be played by Cox or a new actor. Clearly, there are many who would like it to be Cox, and there are many who would like to see D'Onofrio continue as Kingpin. However, if that isn't to be, there's already someone in line for the Kingpin role, and D'Onofrio has no hard feelings about him taking over.
