Spoilers ahead for Daredevil #2

In many respects, Daredevil may be one of Marvel's most tragic heroes, and it turns out, his powers make his life even more tragic than fans realize.

Aside from Spider-Man, it's hard to think of another Marvel Comics hero that has had more tragedy than Daredevil. Between his father, Karen Page, and Elektra, Matt Murdock's gone through more than his fair share of death and grief. It's also been revealed that his friend Goldy has been using his powers of blind faith to manipulate Daredevil for years. Through small interactions, he's set Daredevil on a certain course according to what he believes is divine intervention.

In Daredevil #2 by Chip Zdarsky and Marco Checchetto, it was revealed that Goldy actually had a role in the death of Elektra's father as well. During a hostage situation, Matt Murdock sprung into action. He wasn't quite Daredevil yet, but he and Elektra dispatched the kidnappers. While in the crowd, Goldy manipulated the situation to get a police officer to open fire on the building. The bullets hit Elektra's father, killing him. With his super hearing, Matt was able to hear the bullets as they pierced the man's flesh and tore through his body.

There are so many instances where Daredevil's powers are a blessing. He's a human lie detector and can instantly know things about people just by their smell alone. This doesn’t even take into account the acrobatics it allows him to pull off. But there's a dark side to these powers that are not talked about enough. They also could be considered a curse when he hears things he's not supposed to and experiences tragedies so much more intensely. When something bad happens, Daredevil doesn't actually see what occurs, but he can hear all the nuances of the tragedy, such as broken bones and bleeding organs, more than anyone.

Because he's experiencing all of these tragedies from a heightened form of perception, that means the memories of these tragedies are probably much stronger than they should be. All the noises associated with these deaths must weigh heavy on Daredevil's conscience. For other heroes, fans can sympathize with them on a familiar level because even if they have superpowers and readers don't, it can be assumed they experience the tragedy similar to how normal people would. But Daredevil doesn't, so it must be that much more painful for him. It explains a lot about Daredevil's moral conviction that he's able to carry on like that.
