Netflix’s Daredevil is currently seeing fans flock back to rewatch the series in the wake of the massive character reveals in Hawkeye and Spider-Man: No Way Home. Long before Disney+ began dominating streaming records with their MCU interconnected series, Marvel Television wowed fans by releasing Daredevil season 1 in 2015. Featuring Charlie Cox as the blind lawyer-turned-vigilante Daredevil and Vincent D’Onofrio as his intimidating nemesis, Wilson Fisk (aka Kingpin), the inaugural season garnered a flood of critical acclaim and earned itself a legion of fans.

Shortly after the release of Daredevil’s debut season, Netflix would continue to expand upon their Marvel footprint with Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist all ultimately leading into the team-up mini-series, The Defenders. In 2019, however, Disney planned to launch their own streaming service and had already begun ending many of their distribution deals for their IP with Netflix. While Daredevil showrunner, Erik Oleson, had pitched his ideas for a fourth season hoping for a renewal, Netflix officially canceled the series in November 2018, but suggested the character “would live on in future projects for Marvel”. Ever since that announcement was made, Marvel fans have been crying out to see the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen return to their screens.

Late last year, the prayers of ardent fans were finally answered when D’Onofrio’s Kingpin was revealed in the Disney+ Hawkeye series, while Cox’s Matt Murdock had his own cameo appearance as Peter Parker’s lawyer in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Now, in the wake of those reveals, Variety reports that they also served to instigate a flood of fans returning to the original Daredevil series still hosted on Netflix. According to the Neilsen Streaming Content ratings, Daredevil was catapulted back into the Top 10 Most Watched Original Streaming Programs, with 195 million viewership minutes in the week of December 20-26, 2021.

With fans taking the combination of these two reveals as a potential indicator that both Cox and D’Onofrio are destined to return to the screen in a much bigger capacity, it makes sense that they would return to the original series to refresh their memories. Exactly how the characters of Daredevil and Kingpin will feature in the MCU moving forward is still yet to be revealed, though many fans expect that the upcoming Echo spinoff series starring Alaqua Cox would be the most likely vehicle for them to return. There are also rumors circulating that Cox’s Matt Murdock will also get a chance to appear in the upcoming She-Hulk series, given the that show is being touted as a legal comedy series.

All these rumors and fan theories aside, however, what most people seem desperate to hear is the announcement of the long-awaited Daredevil season 4. While it is not entirely clear whether the MCU versions of Murdock and Fisk are indeed the same characters originally seen on Netflix, that series certainly left a lot of potential story threads hanging for Marvel writers to pick up and continue with, such as what happened Wilson Bethel’s Bullseye. Until fans learn more, however, returning to binge the first 3 seasons of Daredevil on Netflix seems like the perfect way to refresh their memories ahead of any future announcements.
