Marvel's Daredevil is now confirmed to begin filming its next season this year, keeping the show's third season on-course to premiere in 2018. Kicking off the Netflix corner of the MCU, Daredevil surprised critics and fans jaded by the poorly-received film adaptation by delivering an action-packed show full of intrigue and strong character work. Even better, comic book readers finally got a version of the Devil of Hell's Kitchen that they'd been hoping to see on screen for years. Based on the reception, it came as little surprise when Marvel/Netflix then announced that Daredevil season 2 would be happening.

Since then, Marvel have officially introduced each of its street-level heroes and Daredevil opened its world up to ninjas and mysticism in its second season. It also introduced characters like Elektra and The Punisher, both of which will feature in the future of the MCU. In a few months, just about everyone will be coming together for The Defenders, which is said to pick up a short time after Daredevil's last adventures. We've also known since San Diego Comic-Con last summer that Daredevil would be getting a third season somewhere down the line, with most estimates pegging 2018 as the release year.

During an interview with Boogaloo Radio (hat tip to MCU Exchange), Daredevil star Charlie Cox offered an update on Daredevil season 3, saying "I do that later in the year. We’ll go back and do that." That suggests that the show's third season will indeed be premiering on Netflix sometime next year.

Since Netflix debuts all the episodes of a show's new season at once, they don't follow a regular TV production schedule. That means if Daredevil season 3 begins shooting in the fall, giving Cox a break following the promotion blitz for The Defenders, it'll likely be 6—8 months before it's ready to air. That could put Daredevil season 3 in the same March spot as season 2 and Iron Fist season 1. Given the recent news that Jessica Jones season 2 is already filming, the latter may be the Marvel show hitting Netflix in March 2018 instead. Assuming Luke Cage season 2 also starts filming this year, we can expect Daredevil either in the summer slot of The Defenders, or in the fall (where the first seasons of Luke Cage and Jessica Jones premiered).

Once The Defenders premiers, we will have a better idea about what threat Daredevil will be facing alone next. There's a good chance Madame Gao and the Hand will continue to be a problem, and it's also a safe bet that Kingpin will be returning. Daredevil season 3 may even introduce another villain altogether, with the money being on Bullseye right now. The popular Daredevil baddie has been rumored to join the show since season 2, so odds are it will happen eventually. (Either that, or maybe we'll finally see Stilt-Man in action after all of those Easter eggs.)
