'Daredevil' Season 2 Set Images: Jon Bernthal as The Punisher

By now, Daredevil has firmly established Netflix as the perfect venue for some of Marvel's darker heroes, providing a home for characters that either would not quite fit with the studio's more family-friendly big screen releases or are more difficult to market to mass audiences. From what we've seen so far, the streaming service is also giving a new lease on life to characters that have already been given film adaptations, albeit in releases that are less than beloved.

In addition to new versions of Daredevil and supporting characters like Kingpin and Elektra, perhaps the most intriguing part of Daredevil's future plans is its season 2 introduction of The Punisher. The character - who previously starred in three separate box office flops - is one that fans have been clamoring for Marvel Studios to reintroduce.

Now courtesy of Steven Weintraub of Collider, we have our first look at The Walking Dead's Jon Bernthal in costume as Frank Castle. As expected, the character's all-black attire stays somewhat close to his comic book counterpart's, and his buzzed head certainly makes tactical sense, especially with his military background.

Just Jared has much bigger and clearer images of Bernthal as The Punisher, so head over there for a better look.

Thus far, there's no sign of the iconic skull image that traditionally lies across his chest, but as was the case with Matt Murdock's pointy-eared crimson dudes, it's likely that The Punisher's famous costume will appear in some shape or form by the end of the season. After all, aside from that famous skull, he's not too far off.

Reports have been claiming that Daredevil season 2 will largely pit the two heroes against one another, nicely mirroring the big screen Iron Man versus Captain America action of Captain America: Civil War. That being said, it's not much of a surprise to see Bernthal on set so soon after cameras began rolling, considering just how large a part he may have to play in the season.

In any case, Bernthal certainly looks the part and, if this early glimpse is any indication, fans may be in for the best version of The Punisher to date. Share your thoughts on the set images in the comments section below.
