Warning! Spoilers ahead for Daredevil #27 from Chip Zdarsky, Marco Checchetto, and Mike Hawthorne

In the latest Daredevil tie-in issue to Marvel's King in Black event, Elektra has become the new Daredevil, taking over for an incarcerated Matt Murdock. However, both Matt and Elektra are facing legions of symbiotes belonging to Knull the Symbiote God in this new issue. Unfortunately for Matt, he doesn't have a lot of room or resources to work with as he's still in prison, leading to Knull bonding one of his symbiotes to the former Daredevil, hoping to assimilate him into his dark army. However, Matt is able to resist the King in Black more than other Marvel heroes seen previously, and it's revealed that it all comes down to one thing that separates the Man without Fear from all others: his faith.

In the issue from writer Chip Zdarsky with artists Marco Checchetto and Mike Hawthorne, the symbiotes of Knull are overtaking everything in sight, including the prison holding Matt Murdock. Despite putting up as much of a fight as he can, Daredevil is eventually bonded, taking on the appearance of a devilish symbiote meant to corrupt the original Daredevil into Knull's army. However, Matt isn't corrupted completely.

Surprisingly, Murdock is able to resist Knull's full control, refusing to turn and join the Symbiote God right away. This is pretty significant, as there have been several Marvel heroes at this point who have already been turned and corrupted in the main King in Black event, having had no chance or opportunity to try and resist his control. As soon as the symbiotes covered them they were gone, so what makes Daredevil so special? Knull confirms in Daredevil #27 that Matt's unwavering faith in God is what's allowing him to resist...for now.

Despite Knull's attempts to get the "Venomized" Daredevil to doubt his faith in God, Daredevil remains strong. He also confirms that his faith has never wavered with doubt. His only concern has ever been his fear that he might be unworthy of God's love, due to his choices and life as Daredevil, fearing that he might not be able to arrive in Heaven once his time is finally up in the Marvel Universe.

While Daredevil wasn't going to be able to hold Knull off forever, his heightened resistance to the God of Symbiotes does give him enough time to get in the prison's electric chair, which he turns on to literally shock the symbiote off of his body, effectively casting the demon away from his mind and soul. The added dynamic for his resistance is pretty impressive as well, as Daredevil's faith is so intrinsically tied to his character. While the dichotomy of a God-fearing man dressing as a devil paired with the work of a vigilante who's also a lawyer has always been entertaining, this tie-in issue to Marvel King in Black practically makes his faith in God a superpower, especially in this instance where dark (nearly demonic) forces are trying to influence his mind.
