A Daredevil series is reportedly in the works for Disney+, and it would be better for the MCU not to bring Elektra Natchios back in it. After years of speculation and wishful thinking, Charlie Cox's Daredevil finally appeared in an MCU film, Spider-Man: No Way Home. A week before that, Vincent D'Onofrio's Wilson Fisk had appeared in Hawkeye, essentially assuring that Daredevil and his world of characters would have a future in the MCU following the cancellation of the Netflix series.

As of now, it is still not clear whether Daredevil and other shows of the so-called Defenders saga are considered MCU canon. Kevin Feige and the actors involved have carefully not made any definite statement, and there is nothing in No Way Home or Hawkeye to confirm either option. However, even if the MCU never actually confirms the Netflix Marvel series as canon, it is possible that the franchise will avoid major contradictions with Matt Murdock's story in the highly praised Daredevil show. Instead, Daredevil's journey will most likely get a fresh start now that he can interact with other MCU heroes like Spider-Man.

In that scenario, it would make sense for the MCU to avoid going back to Elektra – even if she is an important part of the Daredevil mythos and the Marvel universe as a whole. Unlike Matt and Fisk, who had sort of concluded their stories in the Daredevil series but were still alive, Elektra had seemly died in the disappointing end of The Defenders. Bringing a character that was thought to be dead would be nothing new for the MCU, but that would make it Elektra's second resurrection in a row, something that would risk undermining an important part of Matt's story in the Defenders saga. On top of that, Netflix's Daredevil's take on Elektra was not as acclaimed as what the show did with Matt Murdock or Wilson Fisk, mostly due to the changes in Elektra's origins. Therefore, going all the way to retcon a major death only to return to that version of the character might not be worth it for the MCU.

Elodie Yung as Elektra in Daredevil Season 2

While the MCU could still try a soft reboot on Elektra and dismiss all of her criticized origin stories, that would shed even more light on the discussion if Netflix's Daredevil universe is canon or not – something that the MCU seems to be trying to avoid. As exciting as it would be to have Elektra interacting with other Marvel characters, the focus of the MCU should be laying down a new path for Daredevil in the franchise, which involves finding new stories and emotional stakes for Matt Murdock. Granted, Kingpin was brought back as well, but his story at the end of Daredevil season 3 was way easier to continue than Elektra's.

Elektra's complicated origins with the Hand, as well as her seemly death in The Defenders, makes her return to the MCU not a good choice. Whether other characters from the Netflix Marvel series will join Daredevil and Kingpin in the MCU is still difficult to know, but the reported Disney+ Daredevil series will most likely try to find its own identity rather than replicating what had been before. In any case, it will be interesting to see how things play out now that Daredevil is part of the MCU.
