Warning! Spoilers for The Variants #1 from Marvel Comics below

Working with Daredevil can be difficult for other heroes, but not for a necessarily bad reason, as his powers can immediately determine if he's being lied to. In a new preview for The Variants #1, Jessica Jones encounters her former Defenders teammate. When she thinks about lying to her friend, Jessica immediately decides not to, admitting it's a "pain in the ass" to be working with a hero who can tell if she's telling the truth or not.

Sadly, keeping secrets from fellow heroes has become an all-to-common tactic among comic book heroes. From small lies, like hiding a secret identity, to massive lies, like Reed Richards and Tony Stark forming the Illuminati without making certain heroes privy to the group's existence, twisting the truth is, unfortunately, a regular occurrence, even between the most trustworthy characters. However, Daredevil's powers allow him to immediately identify lies, which is one of the reasons other heroes can be so reluctant to work with him.

In a brand new preview for The Variants #1 by Gail Simone, Phil Noto, Betsy Cola, and VC's Cory Petit, Daredevil finds Jessica Jones passed out on a sidewalk and immediately comes to her aid. The hero can recognize Jessica has gone without coffee for days, as he senses she's been staring at a coffee place for two days. Jones thinks about lying to Daredevil, asking if he would believe her if she said it was for an investigation. In her internal monologue, she admits it's a pain in the ass that Daredevil's powers mean she can't simply lie to him.

Daredevil relays that he needs Jessica to be at a hearing for a woman named Mariah, as she has no one else there for her. Before departing, the hero uses his powers and mentions Jones should wear something less scary. Naturally, Jones scoffs at Daredevil hating her outfit while recognizing that it may be bad if even a blind man doesn't like it.

The interaction between Jessica Jones and Daredevil shows why some heroes are reluctant to work with the Devil of Hell's Kitchen. His powers allow him to often sense whenever he's being lied to, which means that those who try to sneak information by him or misdirect him as part of a mission cannot manipulate him with mistruths. Not being able to lie might not seem that important, but Daredevil can see through them in a world of heroes that constantly tell each other fibs for their own personal gain. The Variants #1 by Marvel Comics is in comic book stores on Monday.
