Daredevil’s MCU Return Explained: Every Change & Every Question We Have

Charlie Cox's Matthew Murdock has finally returned to the MCU as Daredevil in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, bringing with him new changes and a handful of exciting questions about his future. Debuting in She-Hulk's series before his own show (set to release in 2024), Matt Murdock and Jennifer Walters get the opportunity to go head-to-head both as lawyers and superheroes in She-Hulk episode 8. However, their eventual team-up is very exciting as well, potentially teasing big things to come for both justice-seeking heroes.

When superhero fashion designer Luke Jacobsen is accused of making a faulty superhero suit for the "hero" known as Leapfrog in She-Hulk episode 8, Jennifer Walters has no choice but to represent GLK&H's very important client who's suing for damages, despite the new suits Luke recently made for Jen including She-Hulk's new superhero costume. As such, the tease of Daredevil's new helmet in She-Hulk episode 5 is finally paid off with the reveal that Matt Murdock is representing Luke in court against Jennifer Walters. What follows is a dynamic adventure culminating in an exciting team-up (and perhaps more) for Daredevil and She-Hulk.

After She-Hulk and Daredevil take down Leapfrog, who kidnapped Luke in the hope that he would make him a new super-suit, Daredevil fans undoubtedly have a lot of questions about Murdock – considering the various changes and teases about his current status as a vigilante. Here's every change and question viewers may have about Daredevil's return in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law and what it means for the Man Without Fear going forward in the MCU.

How She-Hulk Changes Daredevil’s Powers

Not realizing at first that Daredevil was a hero (or his secret identity as Matt Murdock), She-Hulk's battle with the Devil of Hell's Kitchen is unlike any fight Murdock has been in before. While Daredevil displays the same array of abilities he possesses in his Netflix series, he certainly seems faster and more agile while fighting a legitimate Hulk (before they both realize they're on the same side). Although Netflix's various Marvel series were very grounded with an abundance of practical effects, it seems Marvel Studios wanted to give Daredevil a truly dynamic MCU debut, using special effects and some CGI work to show just how capable Matt Murdock is thanks to his training and heightened senses.

Why Daredevil Looks So Different Now

One of the biggest changes is that Daredevil is now wearing a brand-new suit in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, trading in his red and black look and adding yellow to the arms and helmet (courtesy of Luke Jacobsen). It's for this reason that Matt came all the way from New York and Hell's Kitchen to represent Luke in Los Angeles, seeing as how the designer had previously made a few suits for Daredevil, hence the new helmet teased in She-Hulk episode 5. While Jennifer Walters makes a joke about ketchup and mustard being his color scheme, the new suit is a homage to Daredevil's very first costume in the original Marvel Comics.

She-Hulk’s Daredevil Is Lighter (And That's Good)

It should also be noted that Daredevil does have a lighter personality than he did in his Netflix series, feeling freer to make a couple of jokes in the episode. Murdock even smiles and laughs more than once. That being said, Daredevil still gets time to brood and strike from the darkness in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, so it feels as though Marvel Studios is already building a solid balance for the character as he becomes more integrated into the MCU than ever before.

Is Daredevil More Powerful Now?

Getting his own mini-version of a hallway scene from the Netflix Daredevil series, the Man Without Fear takes down an impressive number of Leapfrog's goons quite easily in She-Hulk. While the episode's half-hour runtime could be accounted for as the main reason why the scene is curtailed, with the underlying need to keep the story moving, it can potentially be explained that Daredevil has become even stronger and more skilled off-screen. Assuming that his Netflix series is canon, Matt has had years to become even more experienced as a vigilante back in Hell's Kitchen.

Can Matt Murdock's Change In Tone Work?

While it makes sense that Daredevil would need to fit She-Hulk's tone which has largely framed the series as a comedy, the new tone for Charlie Cox's character works regardless. He certainly seems to have the right balance between being lighthearted and serious by typical MCU standards. While it's easy to imagine that Murdock will probably be on the more serious side in his upcoming Daredevil: Born Again series, the light humor and somewhat more relaxed version of the character seen in She-Hulk does work quite well, helping define Matt Murdock who seems to be in a much more peaceful and happy era of his life.

Will She-Hulk and Daredevil Be A Long-Term Couple?

Following Daredevil and She-Hulk's team-up, the dynamic new hero duo decide to hook up back at Jennifer's apartment, the both of them choosing to lean into the attraction they've clearly felt for one another the entire episode. However, considering the next morning and Daredevil's hilarious walk of shame, it does seem as though Jen and Matt's relationship is currently limited to this singular one-night stand. Although the Man Without Fear did return to New York, that doesn't mean something couldn't develop later on down the line for Daredevil and She-Hulk.

Is Daredevil's Netflix Series Still Canon?

Considering the fact that Netflix's Daredevil theme plays when Matt tells Jen he's Daredevil, it does seem as though the rival streaming service's three seasons starring Charlie Cox's Murdock are canon in the MCU. There are other teases in the episode as well such as the fact that Matthew confirms he has his own pro bono practice in New York. Likewise, Murdock's statements in court about protecting superhero identities and how some heroes keep them secret to protect those they love suggests characters like Foggy Nelson and Karen Page are also a part of his life back in Hell's Kitchen. Either way, it's going to be very exciting to see where Daredevil goes from here following his return to the MCU via She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.
