With the potential of a Midnight Sons team-up lurking on the horizon, the MCU would be best-served establishing Daredevil as the team’s leader. The franchise has been dabbling in the world of the supernatural with projects like Moon Knight and Blade, opening the door for characters and story elements that would have previously been impossible to incorporate. The stage is set for the Midnight Sons’ introduction, but should the franchise choose to bring them into the fold, putting Daredevil in charge of the group would give the project its best chance at success.

The Midnight Sons are a team of Marvel’s darker heroes, juxtaposing the Avengers in both tone and method. The group was formed by Johnny Blaze and Danny Ketch after learning that Lilith, The Mother of All Demons, was to be resurrected. The original members of the Midnight Sons team consisted of the Ghost Riders (Blaze and Ketch), the Nightstalkers (Blade, Frank Drake, and Hannibal King), the Darkhold Redeemers (Sam Buchanan, Victoria Montesi, and Louise Hastings), and Morbius, The Living Vampire, as well as eventually seeing the likes of the Punisher, Moon Knight, and Doctor Strange.

Daredevil has never been an official member of the Midnight Sons, but he would certainly be a good fit for the team should they be brought into the MCU. Although he is a devoutly religious character, Daredevil’s methods often exceed what would likely be acceptable to most of the Avengers. His brutal and bloody aesthetic is in keeping with that of antiheroes like Blade, both of whom have contributed some of the best action sequences in Marvel’s history. After 3 seasons of a Netflix series and an appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home, Daredevil is well-established within the MCU, lending a degree of legitimacy to the Midnight Sons team-up and making him an ideal leader.

Although Ghost Rider may at some point show up in the MCU (beyond his appearances in Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD), the supernatural nature of his character doesn’t quite fit in with the universe as it stands currently, making it unlikely that he will be pegged to head the team. Blade is a bit more palatable to the franchise, but his temperament and murderous tendencies are unbefitting of a leader. Daredevil is far from an idyllic character, with most of his motivation stemming from guilt or righteous fury, but his rigid morals make him more suited to the role than most of the Midnight Sons members.

Charlie Cox’s Daredevil has already led a team of super-powered antiheroes in Netflix’s The Defenders series, but it is unclear how many of its members (if any) will get a second life in the MCU. The franchise would benefit from a Midnight Sons team-up as it moves away from the Avenger-centric nature of its first 3 Phases, diversifying the universe in more ways than one. Daredevil’s methods and aesthetic make him a good fit for the Midnight Sons, and his morals and boundaries could make the Midnight Sons a good fit for the MCU.
