Rumors of a new Daredevil game have started to crop back up after yesterday’s big announcement that Skydance New Media is working with Marvel Games on a new title. This upcoming game will be headed by former Uncharted director and writer Amy Hennig, who joined movie production company Skydance’s new video game division in 2019 after leaving Naughty Dog in 2014 and a brief stint with EA - during which she worked with Visceral Games on an ultimately undeveloped Star Wars game.

Yesterday, Skydance New Media announced its new partnership with Marvel Games, leading many fans to naturally start speculating on which iconic Marvel hero will be getting the triple-A gaming treatment next. The most popular guess so far is Daredevil, as rumors about a game starring Matt Murdock and his crimson-clad alter-ego have been circulating the internet since before Insomniac announced Marvel’s Wolverine at September’s PlayStation Showcase livestream. Now that Amy Henning and Skydance New Media have announced their new Marvel project, these rumors are spreading once again.

According to Game Rant, social media users are already speculating that Skydance New Media’s upcoming Marvel game will star Daredevil, with many citing the old leak that predicted Marvel’s Wolverine as evidence. Twitter user AJCI282002 posted a screenshot of this rumor shortly after the Skydance announcement, which described the hypothetical Daredevil title as being a “single-player narrative-focused game” - something that Skydance New Media has reportedly put a strong emphasis on developing. Nathan Harkins agrees that a Daredevil game would be exciting, but pauses at the idea of the story being set in Chicago instead of Matt Murdock's comic book home of Hell's Kitchen, comparing it to "making a Batman game in Central City instead of Gotham.”

Despite being among Marvel’s most popular characters, Daredevil hasn’t had a starring role in a video game aside from a forgettable GameBoy Advance tie-in for the 2003 Daredevil movie and guest appearances in titles like Marvel Ultimate Alliance and the PlayStation 1 Spider-Man game. An ultimately unproduced triple-A Daredevil game was in development for the PlayStation 2, with raw gameplay footage being leaked back in 2016. Since then, fans have been left dreaming of an interactive adventure centered around the Man Without Fear, especially given the success and quality of recent Marvel games like Insomniac’s Marvel’s Spider-Man series or the recent Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy.

So far, Skydance New Media and Marvel Games have yet to confirm which of the House Of Ideas’ vast assortment of heroes will be featured in the newly announced video game, but an open-world Daredevil game featuring Matt traversing the darkened streets of Hell's Kitchen would certainly play to Amy Henning's experience with the Uncharted series. With Marvel-based games becoming increasingly successful over the past few years and rumors of Charlie Cox returning to the role of Matt Murdock in the MCU continuing to spread, the timing might be just right for a new Daredevil title.
