Warning! Spoilers ahead for Daredevil #25 from Chip Zdarsky and Marco Checchetto

It's official. Daredevil is behind bars in the latest series from Marvel Comics, serving out a two-year sentence for an unintentional murder Matt Murdock is still intent on taking responsibility for. However, this doesn't mean that Hell's Kitchen is without a defender. A new Daredevil has risen to protect its streets, picking up the slack in the wake of the original's prison sentence, and this new horned vigilante is revealed to be none other than Elektra Natchios. Not only that, but she's also become the next Tony Stark, as she's recently come into quite the large fortune at her disposal.

In the last issue, Daredevil was concerned that if he were to go to prison, Hell's Kitchen would fall to the whims and control of the corrupt and wealthy Stomwyns, and the borough would fall into chaos. Despite all of his efforts to prepare in the event that he would be found guilty and incarcerated, it looked as though the Stromwyns were going to buy up all of the buildings in an upcoming property auction. Once doing so, they would no doubt intentionally run the borough into the ground as revenge against Matt Murdock and the Kingpin. Daredevil even asked Tony Stark to buy up the buildings at a loss in order to keep the borough safe, but a third party Matt assumed to be the Stromwyns bought up the entire neighborhood instead before Tony could even make a bid.

As a result, Daredevil felt as though he had no choice but to fight for his freedom, despite his strong moral code motivating him to pay for his crimes and take responsibility. However, Daredevil's former love Elektra arrived at the courtroom, revealing that she was the one who bought Hell's Kitchen (ironically using her new billions she stole from the Stromwyns themselves), promising Matt that it would be safe while he was gone. Relieved and now with a clear conscience, Daredevil took a deal for a shorter sentence and pled guilty, and was sent to prison for two years.

Now, Daredevil #25 sees Elektra revealing that she bought Hell's Kitchen as a gift to Daredevil, hoping that he would now help her against The Hand, the ninja cult that is starting to rise once more. However, Daredevil reveals that he still doesn't trust her or the darkness that she operates and thrives in, refusing her proposal yet again. Determined to prove herself to Matt in order to get the help she apparently must have, Elektra becomes a new interim Daredevil, resolved to work in the light.

However, with all of her newfound billions, she's also essentially the next Tony Stark, following suit as a fellow billionaire super hero just like Iron Man. Having such a large sum of money does provide new opportunities to fight crime that the original Daredevil didn't have, so it will be interesting to see what exactly Elektra does with all her funds. Will she put it back into Hell's Kitchen and its residents? This was somewhat hinted at when she helped a homeless woman earlier in the issue. On the other hand, she could invest the money into new equipment to assist in her protection of the borough. Either way, the new Daredevil is here, and it looks as though she's just getting started as Marvel's next wealthy hero.
