Warning! Spoilers ahead for Daredevil: Woman Without Fear #1
In a new preview for Marvel Comics' Daredevil: Woman Without Fear #1, Elektra may be reigniting her romance with Matt Murdock's Daredevil during Marvel's Devil's Reign event. Having been released from jail only for Mayor Wilson Fisk to declare war on New York's heroes, Matt is preparing to join Elektra and the rest of the Avengers to come up with a battle plan. However, this new preview also sees Elektra visiting the Kingpin himself before finding herself drawn to Matt Murdock once more.
In previous issues of Daredevil from Chip Zdarsky and Marco Checchetto, Elektra has been filling in as a new Daredevil while Matt Murdock serves his prison sentence for involuntary manslaughter. However, Elektra hasn't been protecting Hell's Kitchen out of the goodness of her own heart. By keeping Matt's city safe, she's hoping that he'll help her defeat the Hand, who is rising once more in the Marvel Universe as they already have a foothold in New York and are preparing for something truly big. While Matt has been rather resistant even after he is released by prison, Kingpin's new endgame has taken priority with Devil's Reign.
In the new preview for Daredevil: Woman Without Fear #1 from Chip Zdarsky and Rafael De Latorre, Elektra is seen directly confronting Kingpin himself without Matt's knowledge. However, while she'd like nothing more than to end the threat of Wilson Fisk once and for all, she has made a promise that she won't kill. As a result, she instead heads back to Murdock's apartment where neither of them seems able to stop themselves from falling for one another yet again. While the synopsis seemingly teases Elektra's coming battle with Kraven the Hunter (teased in Devil's Reign #2), the notion that Elektra and Matt are seemingly getting back together is equal parts risky and exciting. Theirs is an incredibly volatile relationship with just as much pain as there is love. It will likely become even more complicated than ever before now that they'll also be partnering as dual Daredevils. Furthermore, their renewed romance could easily fall apart, especially if Matt continues to reject Elektra's requests for help against the Hand as he has in recent issues.
Elektra and Daredevil being back together in the Marvel Universe is a fairly significant step for both of them, though it is something Kingpin could easily exploit in the issues to come. The likelihood of their new romance crashing and burning feels pretty high considering all of the dangers and obstacles currently facing them both in the Marvel Universe. Either way, fans will likely know more when the full Daredevil: Woman Without Fear #1 releases on January 12th.
