Warning! Spoilers for Savage Avengers #2 ahead!

It might have taken some time, but Daredevil has helped his longtime love interest, Elektra, finally see the light. Unfortunately, passing along his more moral way of crimefighting might put the former assassin at a deadly disadvantage.

Despite technically being on the same side of the law, for a long time the biggest wedge driving Matt Murdock and Elektra Natchios apart was the latter's tendency to kill those in battle. With a strong Catholic faith, Daredevil always took issue with Elektra's willingness to kill. But Natchios was trained nearly all her life by some of the most deadliest fighters in the world. However, when Elektra became the new Daredevil when Matt was sent to prison, he made her promise to stop killing if she wanted his help taking down the Hand in the future. Elektra took up the mantle mostly to show Matt she could change, but she did find herself able to adhere to Matt's policy.

And though her change is certainly something to be celebrated, a recent adventure across time and space shows that not killing may have been a bad choice for someone like Elektra. Savage Avengers #2 by David Prepose and Carlos Magno features a crew of heroes sent backwards through time to the Hyborian Age of Conan the Barbarian. Not only are they stuck in the past, but Elektra and the hero Cloak wind up in a combat arena where they're forced to fight for their lives. Before they know what's hit them, Cloak and the new Daredevil face off against the Devil Dinosaur. Elektra takes the beast head on, but aware of her promise to Matt, she doesn't take the monster's life. Instead, she restrains Devil Dinosaur, which almost works until he breaks free and nearly kills the heroes.

It's not the best case scenario, but at least she tries. Elektra has abandoned her killer ways as Daredevil, which is a good thing because it's convinced Matt to help her take down the Hand. But as her brief battle against Devil Dinosaur shows, there are going to be situations where quick thinking and non-lethal measures won't always be the answer. The antihero may have found herself in the good graces of Matt Murdock, but his "redemption" of Elektra may actually be condemning her to death once more.

Daredevil and Elektra's relationship has always helped the heroes balanced each other out. Elektra is willing to cross the lines Matt can't to put down some true evils and Daredevil's love for Elektra gives her a connection to the world that isn't mired in darkness. But now that Elektra is on the side of the angels, she may be putting herself at genuine risk. She knows the depths the Hand will sink to in order to destroy their enemies. And now that Frank Castle is leading the ninja cult, it's a very real possibility that Elektra may wind up getting herself killed if she can't defend herself how she's used to. Daredevil may have saved Elektra's soul, but she may wind up losing her life.
