Daredevil: Born Again star Charlie Cox has shared his thoughts on how the move to Disney+ might affect the series. Daredevil originally ran on Netflix for three seasons between 2015 through 2018. The series, which followed the vigilante exploits of blind lawyer Matt Murdock (Cox), was the flagship series of Netflix's Defenders universe, which also included Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist. Although Marvel severed ties with the entire Netflix universe, Cox's daredevil has officially joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe with appearances in Spider-Man: No Way Home and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law ahead of the debut of his Disney+ reboot series.

NME recently sat down with Cox to discuss his new Netflix series Treason. However, the conversation couldn't help but turn toward his return as Daredevil. While Cox doesn't yet know exactly what the impending 18-episode Daredevil: Born Again will entail, he hazarded a guess as to how moving to Disney+ would affect the tone of the show. He revealed that, while the character still needs to have a certain amount of darkness to function properly, "it probably won’t be as gory." Read his full quote below:

My opinion is this character works best when he’s geared towards a slightly more mature audience. My instinct is that on Disney+ it will be dark but it probably won’t be as gory.

I would say to those people, we’ve done that. Let’s take the things that really worked, but can we broaden? Can we appeal to a slightly younger audience without losing what we’ve learned about what works?

Everything We Know About Daredevil: Born Again

Matt suiting up in Daredevil Netflix Season 3

So far, most - if not all - of the plot of Daredevil: Born Again is being kept tightly under wraps ahead of next year's production start. His recent appearance on She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, where he meets lawyer Jen Walters (Tatiana Maslany) and strikes instant physical and romantic chemistry, led many to believe that Walters would appear on Born Again in some capacity. However, a recent casting announcement reportedly revealed that In From the Cold star Margarita Levieva would be joining the series as a love interest for Daredevil. Though that doesn't preclude Walters from joining the series, it may indicate that the new show is moving in a different romantic direction.

While the entire cast of Daredevil: Born Again has not been revealed, the closest fans can get to anticipating the show's new plotlines comes in what has already been announced. For instance, Vincent D'Onofrio has been confirmed to return as his original Daredevil villain Kingpin, who made his first MCU appearance in the final episode of the 2021 series Hawkeye, boasting heightened strength that may mean he has acquired some form of superpower. The series, which is set to premiere in early 2024, will also feature a love interest for Kingpin, played by Resident Evil: Apocalypse's Sandrine Holt.

Whether Cox's speculations about Daredevil: Born Again being less gory will be accurate remains to be seen, however. Daredevil has already sparked a massive change on the streaming platform when the Netflix Defenders Saga originally transferred from Netflix to Disney+ earlier this year. The more adult-oriented content of the series caused the platform to introduce new profile settings that allowed older viewers to access more mature content, so they may attempt to recapture the spirit of the original series as honestly as possible.
