Daredevil star Deborah Ann Woll is worried she'll never get to act again. The first Marvel show to debut on Netflix, Daredevil premiered on the streamer in 2015. It starred Charlie Cox as the titular lawyer/vigilante, with Woll co-starring as Karen PageDaredevil served as the first of several Marvel Netflix shows, all of which were created with the intention of leading up to The Defenders. Despite Marvel's ambitious plans, the studio began to move away from Netflix when Disney created its own streaming service, Disney+. Things were further complicated when Marvel Television, which created the Netflix shows, was absorbed by Marvel Studios. Daredevil, along with the other Marvel Netflix shows, were soon cancelled.

Woll played a pivotal role in other Marvel Netflix shows. Beyond the three seasons of Daredevil, Woll appeared in both The Defenders and Daredevil's spin-off The Punisher. Prior to joining the Marvel universe, Woll was perhaps best known for playing Jessica Hamby on HBO's True Blood. Since Daredevil's completion, Woll appeared in the 2019 thriller Escape Room and hosted the D&D series Relics and Rarities.

While appearing on Marvel EVP and Creative Director Joe Quesada's morning streaming show Joe Q's Mornin' Warm Up, Woll confessed her anxieties over not being able to find work. She said her biggest concern right now is if she'll ever be able to act again, particularly since it's been a while since she's had a job. Woll's full comments go like this:

I'm just really wondering whether I'll get to work again, whether anyone wants to work with me again, and whether I still have it, all of those scary things. Part of my brain goes, ‘No, you’re just being crazy, calm down.’ But the part of me that loves [acting] and the problem with being an artist and an actor, and any of these professions where you put a piece of your soul into your work, is that it becomes a part of your identity… If I’m not acting, I’m not sure who I am. And since it’s been so long since I’ve really gotten to do it, I’m struggling a little bit with how to maintain my self-worth, my sense of my own value.

Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page

Marvel fans were disappointed when Daredevil's cancellation was announced, especially since many considered it one of the strongest Marvel Netflix shows. Some fans have attempted to mount a campaign to save it and have gained the support of the show's stars like Vincent D'Onofrio, who played kingpin Wilson Fisk. Now that the MCU's television side is focusing on Disney+ shows centered on characters from the films (like The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Loki), it's unclear if there's any future for the Netflix characters. Many have noted that the characters could easily crossover to the films; the most popular example seems to be Daredevil appearing in a Spider-Man film. However, as of right now, nothing has been announced.

Woll's troubles likely haven't been helped by the coronavirus pandemic, which has slowed almost all progress within the entertainment industry. Countless productions have been shut down due to the pandemic, and it's unclear when they'll be able to get going again. This likely doesn't comfort Woll in the slightest, but there are still some who are fighting for Daredevil's survival. Maybe Marvel will heed their wishes and revive the series on Disney+.
