Two actresses have recently been cast as love interests in Daredevil: Born Again, which could be leading to a hilarious misinterpretation of Daredevil's character. In the canceled Netflix show Daredevil, Charlie Cox's Matt Murdock is a bit of a lady's man, but his obsession with taking down criminals and Vincent D'Onofrio's Kingpin always takes top priority. In the MCU, Murdock has appeared in Spider-Man: No Way Home for a brief cameo as a "really good lawyer," and again in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law where he works with and romances Jennifer Walters. Since most of Matt's MCU screen time has seen him engaged romantically, it's creating a very different picture of Daredevil.

Matt Murdock isn't a prude in Marvel Comics by any means, but the relationships are typically very clearly meant to be flings, or they're slowly built up over a long period of time. Born Again's newest cast members are Margarita Levieva and Sandrine Holt, who are rumored to be playing Daredevil and Kingpin's love interests. However, there's a possibility that both women could end up falling for Matt Murdock, especially since he's the show's leading protagonist. If this happens, Matt would have had 3 relationships since returning in MCU Phase 4, and 6 in total counting Netflix.

Born Again Could Introduce Too Many Daredevil Love Interests

She-Hulk Daredevil Karen Page

Matt Murdock has only appeared in cameos so far in the MCU, and he's already had a fling with another superhero. While only one of the two actresses is likely meant to be a love interest for Matt, the MCU is depicting Matt Murdock as a Casanova whether they're intentionally doing so or not. The Netflix series exploded in popularity thanks to its gritty, realistic, and believable tone. The MCU so far has depicted Matt in a more lighthearted sense, highlighting the more fun areas of his personality. By having Matt jump from relationship to relationship, it's becoming a running joke about how charismatic Daredevil can be.

Daredevil: Born Again does have one route away from making Matt's love life into a joke. In the same way Netflix's version took itself (mostly) seriously, the MCU could give Matt's new love interest(s) a genuine background and history with him. Jennifer Walters fell for Matt after one night of working together as heroes, which isn't the greatest foundation for a meaningful love story. Giving Born Again's love story more history would make the relationship much more believable and meaningful. Building up slowly to a new romance would give each relationship more breathing room as well, so it wouldn't feel like Matt was just hopping from person to person.

Daredevil: Born Again Can Continue A New MCU Tradition

MCU Phase 4 Spiderman No Way Home Wanda Doctor Strange Multiverse of Madness

Marvel has featured quite a few couples, with almost every movie in Phase 4 featuring a leading couple. But unlike previous phases, the heroes haven't really gotten their "happily ever afters." No Way Home sees Peter lose everyone he loves, WandaVision sees Wanda's dream of having a family fall apart, and so on. If Born Again is going to feature a new love story for Murdock, there's no guarantee that the relationship will last.

Whether Matt's true love is Margarita Levieva's character, Sandrine Holt's, Tatiana Maslany's Jennifer Walters, or Deborah Ann Woll's Karen Page, Born Again could end up depicting Daredevil as quite the social butterfly. The MCU can still correct the course of Daredevil's love life though, by focusing more on Matt's mission to protect Hell's Kitchen and take down the Kingpin. Either way, Daredevil: Born Again is sure to be an entertaining show to watch.
