Charlie Cox opens up about his desire to see Daredevil and Black Widow's "sexy" relationship explored in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Scarlett Johansson first brought the iconic heroine to life in the MCU with Iron Man 2 as an undercover spy for S.H.I.E.L.D after having been recruited by Clint Barton in the hopes of helping escape her past life as an assassin for the Red Room. The two-time Oscar nominee would carry Black Widow through nine other films, including establishing her as a founding member of the Avengers Initiative and leading to her defending the world from Loki, Ultron and Thanos.

Charlie Cox made his MCU debut as Matt Murdock/Daredevil in the eponymous Netflix series in the same name, which established its own mini universe of interconnected shows alongside Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and The Punisher. A few years after his show was cancelled, Cox would return for Spider-Man: No Way Home to confirm Daredevil's MCU connections as he appeared as Peter Parker's lawyer near the start of the film and shows a hint of his abilities by preventing a brick from hitting the young webslinger in the face. With Cox looking forward to his future in the MCU, something confirmed by he and Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige, the actor is sharing his ideas of what should come next for the character.

While speaking with ComicBook.com for the recent Kin season 2 renewal, Charlie Cox reflected on the potential future for Daredevil in the MCU. When asked who he'd want to play alongside in the franchise, the actor revealed his hopes for Daredevil and Black Widow's relationship to be explored in the MCU, finding it to be both "funny" and "sexy". See what Cox said below:

“I really like the Black Widow, the Daredevil/Black Widow stuff. That relationship is really funny to me, I don't know why. I find it really funny and sexy at the same time."

Daredevil and Black Widow swinging through the air in Marvel comics.

In the comics, Daredevil is typically well-known for his romantic relationship with Elektra Natchios after having met her in college, though their relationship would see its ups and downs in the years following as her violent nature would often conflict with Matt's ideals. However, Daredevil and Black Widow would try their hand at dating one another after she moves to San Francisco and operates as an independent hero alongside him, though the two would later break up after her return to the Avengers and fear that their relationship was turning her into a sidekick. The two would later reunite back in Matt's hometown of New York City, though Black Widow would fail in her attempt to rekindle their relationship upon finding him dating Heather Glenn and realizing he only thinks of her in platonic terms now.

Given the death of Johansson's heroine in Avengers: Endgame, Cox's hope to see Daredevil and Black Widow's relationship in the MCU does have a hurdle to overcome, though isn't entirely impossible to explore. Florence Pugh's Yelena Belova has more or less taken over as the new Black Widow within the MCU, as was the case in the comics, and with her revealed obsession for New York in Disney+'s Hawkeye and Spider-Man: No Way Home confirming Cox's Matt Murdock is still operating in the city, a future story could see the two get their own romance rather than Natasha and Matt. In the meantime, audiences can catch up with the first three seasons of Daredevil when they hit Disney+ on March 16.
