Daredevil delivered 39 excellent episodes in its three-season run from 2015 to 2018. With some of the longest and most brutal fights ever committed to television. Pitting The Devil of Hell's Kitchen against some of the deadliest foes New York had to offer.

Throughout his many battles across Hell's Kitchen, and in his professional life as a lawyer, Matt Murdoc encountered many different characters. Some of them became enemies, and some become friends. But as the saying goes, not all characters are created equal. Some of them were terrific additions, challenging and complimenting Matt Murdock, while others were under-developed or simply didn't fit.

BEST: Claire Temple

Daredevil - Claire Temple

Appearing in many of the Netflix Marvel series was Claire Temple, a fantastic addition to the show. A nurse by day with a big heart, and proved herself more than capable of calling Matt Murdock out when he went too far down the brooding lone vigilante alley.

The character was three-dimensional, with family and friends she cared about, and a successful career she was willing to jeopardize for the sake of doing the right things. Her romantic involvement with Matt Murdock may have been short-lived but her impact on the show was huge.

WORST: Elektra

Elektra and Daredevil suited up in Netflix's Daredevil

With Elektra's introduction to the show came an endless horde of ninjas. While cool and deadly in their own right, they felt somewhat at odds with the tone of the show. This same problem extends to Elektra herself. It can't be denied that she pushed Daredevil, and the code he lives by into evermore grey and murky territory, which made for compelling viewing.

And furthermore - she was a badass! However her constant double-crossing became tiresome, but her death and the end of season 2 provided her character with growth. Only for her to be revived, and her character development, undone later in The Defenders, leaving a bad taste in the viewer's mouths and wasting a character with so much potential.

BEST: Vanessa

The Kingpin's right-hand woman and the love of his life, Vanessa stuck by her man, even during his time in the big house. A former art dealer dragged into the crime-ridden underbelly of New York City. She was a complex character who gave up everything for the Kingpin and saw something in him that no one else did.

Much if the same way that Daredevil surrounded himself with people able to give him advice and hold him back, the Kingpin too had numerous allies and advisors. Vanessa being his most trustworthy and loyal of all.

WORST: Stick

Scott Glenn as Stick in Daredevil

Stick, the mentor of Matt Murdock, the man who trained him and gave him the skills to become the man he is today. Blind himself, he is an expert fighter, stoic with a no-nonsense attitude he is a powerful and useful ally.

However, his constant talk of "the war" became pretty tiresome pretty quickly. And only served to bog down the story, and directly contradicted the grounded tone the show is clearly striving for. On top of all this when all is said and done he's fairly two-dimensional as a character without any real nuance or much of a personality.

BEST: Foggy Nelson

Matt Murdock And Foggy Nelson In Daredevil

Best friend to Matt Murdock and partner at the independent law firm they created together - Nelson and Murdock, the two have known each other since college and have an unshakable bond, like brothers. Although it's true the two have had their ups and downs (having a secret identity will do that to a relationship), Foggy Nelson is there for him.

He was a great addition to the cast, providing more light-hearted moments and jokes to an otherwise dark and gritty show. He kept Matt grounded and was incredibly good at his job, arguably an even better lawyer than Matt Murdock himself.

WORST: Nobu

Nobu from Daredevil

Nobu presented himself as a wealthy businessman in season 1 however, it was later revealed that he was actually a member of The Hand, the super-secret ninja group, and while he was pretty bad-ass, able to give Daredevil a run for his money with his swinging-chin-hook-of-death, his death and revival cheapen and pretty much ruin the character.

Reviving characters through some magic mumbo-jumbo it completely at odds with the rest of the show, and yes the premise of the series and Daredevil himself stretch reality quite a bit, but undoing death straight up breaks reality.

BEST: Father Lantom

Father Lantom looking serious in Daredevil

Appearing in all 3 seasons of Daredevil, Father Lantom was an ally to Matt Murdock like no other. Although he beats the criminals of the city to a bloody pulp every night, Matt Murdock is still a man of God.

Raised as a catholic Matt Murdock sought the council of Father Lantom frequently, ofter racket with guilt and conflict. Unsure where to turn or what was right. Never condescending, patronizing, or judgemental, there were no easy answers from Father Lantom. And that's exactly what Matt Murdock needed to hear.

WORST: Marci Stahl

Marci talking to two people in Daredevil

Marci Stahl had a relatively small role in the grand scheme of things, and although she was clearly an adept lawyer at the top of her field, there's no denying that she was unlikable. Though she was at one point in a relationship with Foggy Nelson it's clear that their paths diverged a long time ago.

And though it's true that her character did go through significant changes and grow as a person, even managing to regain the affections of Foggy in the shows final season, by that point, the damage was done.

BEST: Frank Castle

Frank Castle standing in The Punisher

Featured in season 2 Frank Castle - The Punisher, provided a direct contradiction to Daredevil's moral philosophy. Believing that the criminals that plagued Hell's Kitchen should simply be killed. The excellent and heated exchange between these two characters featured in "New York's Finest" delves deep into these ideas and provided compelling arguments for both sides.

He, of course, went on to star in his own Netflix series, however, it's clear that Frank Castle shines the brightest on Daredevil. With Matt Murdock more so than anyone else able to push him and question his own outlook.

WORST: James Wesly

The sharp and stern James Wesly stood as The Kingpin's right-hand man and most trusted ally throughout season 1. Although much thought and effort were put into The Kingpin's backstory and motivation, making him sympathetic and complex, the same cannot be said for James Wesly.

Dying at the hands of Karen Paige adds insult to injury and just makes him look kinda stupid, really. Perhaps if he had made it to another season his character would have been more fleshed out and three-dimensional. As it stands he just wasn't all that interesting.
