Darcey and Stacey Silva are known for being open about their lives on their TLC spin-off Darcey and Stacey. That's why it especially frustrates fans when the twins post overly Photoshopped pictures of themselves to social media. The latest picture to draw criticism is the one shared below. Fans have gone so far as to say the twins look "like Bratz dolls," thanks to their exaggerated eyes and poreless skin.
Darcey and Stacey are not exactly known for their natural faces. During 90 Day Fiancé, both of the sisters had cosmetic procedures. It's clear from their changing features, which fluctuate from season to season (as fans love to note) that they have no issues with going under the knife or getting injections. However, they're not the only cast members getting blasted for over-editing their pictures. Deavan Clegg, who is currently caught in custody drama with her ex Jihoon Lee, is often criticized for posting pictures that look nothing like her.
The main reason viewers take offense to these photos is the fact that they already know what these stars look like. It's one thing for an influencer who carefully curates their image to edit their looks; when it's a reality star, it bristles fans in a unique way. Reality stars are famous because they let fans into their real lives, and with that comes an unedited view of what they really look like. TV cameras don't come with Instagram presets, so no one is buying their edited looks after seeing them onscreen. Frankly, it's insulting to insinuate that viewers don't have eyes or good enough memories to recall what these stars truly look like. Since fans stare at their unfiltered faces every Sunday night on their HD TV screens, it begs the question, "Who exactly do they think they're fooling with the Photoshop?"
Likely, it's not personal. Darcey and Stacey are probably posting these sort of images due to insecurity. Being on TV (much less reality TV) can do psychological damage to even the most confident of people. It's safe to say that Darcey and Stacey never fell into the category of "confident," even before their rise to TV fame. Many fans are frustrated because they want that confidence for Darcey and Stacey.
As frivolous as the two can be, fans have come to love them. Viewers genuinely root for them to find love with their partners, and want them to love themselves. When they post pictures that don't celebrate their true looks, it can be disappointing to Darcey and Stacey fans who really want the best for them.
Both Darcey and Stacey's Instagram accounts have gone private, but their joint Instagram account is still up. Some photos on this account are not overly-edited. Maybe this is a good sign... maybe they're realizing that audiences want to see pictures that showcase the real Darcey and Stacey.
