Life has imitated art, with veteran actor and action star Danny Trejo rescuing a baby from a car accident. The actor is one of the busiest in Hollywood, having broken into movies back in the 1980s and working consistently to this day. In recent years, Trejo has appeared in everything from such critically acclaimed dramas as Breaking Bad to popular comic book adaptations as The Flash.

On the big screen, in recent years he reprised his Spy Kids role in the cult-favorite standalone Machete film and its sequel, Machete Kills. A second sequel has also long been expected and believed to still be in the works. He recently parodied such frequent tough-guy characters in a Rick and Morty episode. In an even bigger and more surprising career twist, Trejo will serve as the voice of Boots the Monkey, the sidekick of Dora the Explorer, in Dora and the Lost City of Gold. The film is the latest live-action adaptation of a beloved animated property.

As reported by EW, Trejo can now also add being a real-life hero to his resume. The actor served as a witness to a road accident when a driver reportedly ran through a red light and collided with another. The car that was hit was subsequently flipped heavily onto its roof. Without hesitation, Trejo climbed out of his car and leaped into action. Crawling in through one of the windows, Trejo tried to free the baby from their seat. With help from another witness, Trejo was eventually able to unbuckle the seat belt and pull the infant from the wreckage.

Unfortunately, he was unable to assist the other passengers. However, Trejo remained on hand to watch the baby and keep them distracted as firefighters fought to release the child's grandmother. Each of the passengers was later all taken to hospital and reportedly suffered no serious injuries. Trejo, who has no less than 20 upcoming projects in various stages of development, later relayed his advice for all drivers out there: "Pay attention," he said. "The only thing that saved that little kid was his car seat, honest to God."

It's not every day that an action star gets to put his on-screen skills to use in the real world. While it wasn't quite the same level as walking away from an explosion without flinching or looking back, it was no less impressive for the 75-year-old to get involved the way he did. The family themselves will no doubt be extremely grateful that he happened to be in the area at the time. As life continues to mirror art in increasingly surreal ways, Trejo will now firmly find himself on an ever-growing list of actors who have gone above and beyond in real life.
