Danny McBride has partnered with Spire Studios to develop Trouble, an animated feature about a kid who gets stuck in a parallel reality. McBride is perhaps best known for such hits as Eastbound and Down, The Righteous Gemstones, and Pineapple Express. Now the multifaceted star has a new project to add to his impressive resume.
As Collider explains, Trouble will tell the story of a 13-year-old boy named Jax who, after getting into trouble consistently with his family, finds himself trapped in a chaotic parallel reality known as the "World of Trouble." The challenge he ends up being faced with is escaping this world to make it back home, while receiving valuable lessons about empathy and self-forgiveness in the process. McBride has co-created the story, which is still in the early stages of development, with Brad Lewis, the producer of Ratatouille and co-director of Cars 2.
Trouble is just the second animated feature on the slate for Spire Studios, which made its official debut in the world of animation in 2020. Century Goddess, their first title, which was announced in October 2020, follows the tale of a "once-in-a-century goddess" who flexes her prowess in both song and spoken word to inspire a revolution against a dictatorship and society bent on suppressing art.
McBride, who has made a career out of playing troublesome characters, released a statement about the project, saying: "The idea of being in trouble is a universal fear we’ve all experienced growing up. Being able to build out what that world could look like and exploring how we can make this an animated adventure with Brad and the team at Spire has been awesome." While no further news regarding casting or release date has been released, it sure sounds like Trouble is going to be quite a fun ride.
