Dancing with the Stars' Ray Lewis dropped out of the show after suffering an injury. The contestants on season 28 of the hit ABC show are seemingly dropping like flies.

While Dancing With The Stars front runner James Van Der Beek is wiping the floor with most of the contestants, there have been some major setbacks for the new season’s contestants. Forgetting the drama that followed Sean Spicer around, there have been two severe injuries that have now caused the show to lose two contestants. Fans of the show know how physically taxing the dancing can become and the toll it can take, and the loss of two contestants this season are proof. Viewers are now hoping that the rest of the cast can stay intact.

NFL linebacker, Ray Lewis, could not end zone dance his way to the season finale as he announced that he will have to drop out due to a foot injury, according to Us Weekly. Apparently, an old football injury had flared up causing an immense amount of pain for the ex-football player, which was explained by Tom Bergeron. His partner, Cheryl Burke, took to Instagram to express her time that she spent with Lewis, saying that it was so nice to dance with him on the show. To her, he had been to the most dedicated and positive partner she had the pleasure to dance with.

Even though it’s just a dance competition, most of the competitors are asked to push themselves past their limits. Some of the strain from Dancing With The Stars has caused many celebrities to retire early from the dance floor due to injuries, but fans were happy to see that Lewis recognized his time was up. In the video clip aired by the ABC show, Lewis was seen practicing the cha-cha, which was meant to be a tribute to Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, but the clip then cut to Lewis explaining that he had pain every time he would practice. It was revealed that the NFL star had torn three tendons and the injury would require surgery. The decision to leave the show came down to his own doctor advising him to quit the competition.

Lewis is the second contestant to pull out from the show due to injury on season 28. Christie Brinkley had to abandon ship before the first show and asked her daughter Sailor Brinkley- Cook to step in due to a shattered wrist. The rest of the celebrity cast will hopefully take precautions to prevent any future issues and untimely dropouts.
