Warning! Spoilers for Batman: Urban Legends #7 below!

Damian Wayne just proved that in the future, his Batman is more committed to protecting Gotham than his father, Bruce Wayne. The former Robin is so devoted to honoring the legacy of Batman that he makes an infernal deal in order to gain the advantage necessary to protect his father's city. Following his Gotham's destruction, Damian proves just as relentless as Bruce, plowing through a gauntlet of enemies to meet with their boss with the goal of giving whatever it takes to make things right.

Created by Grant Morrison and Andy Kubert in Batman #666, this alternate version of Damian Wayne witnesses the death of both his father and his mentor, Dick Grayson. With little guidance and Gotham descending into chaos, Damian supposedly bargains with the Devil to gain immortality and advanced healing on top of the training from his father and the League of Assassins. Damian is an intelligent yet much crueler Batman, having no qualms over injuring or even killing his enemies if necessary. Although he helps prevent his fair share of apocalypses, the extremely long-lived Damian is not able to prevent the destruction of Gotham by a nuclear strike in Batman: Incorporated #5.

In Batman: Urban Legends #7, the story "Executive Game" by Tim Seeley and Juan Ferreyra sees Damian leave behind his faithful feline Alfred to attend a meeting in the Palegras Tower, one of the few standing buildings in the ruins of Gotham. After making an entrance, Damian faces a gauntlet of his past foes but Weasel, Phosphorus Rex, Candyman and Jackanapes are incapacitated with calculated coordination. Other foes like the Flamingo, Max Roboto and Loveless get a more final, brutal effort. It's all smoke and mirrors leading up to the final confrontation with their boss, the infernal entity with whom Damian made his original deal. But the Batman has not come to kill or fight this creature. Instead Damian seeks to bargain again, this time for the soul of Gotham itself.

Damian has struggled with his father's no guns and no killing rule, having been raised by assassins thanks to his mother's influence. As Batman, he's failed to honor those aspects of his father's legacy but remains dedicated to the mission of protecting Gotham. Although he's seen killing or seriously wounding his enemies here, Damian proves that his commitment to Gotham is greater than Bruce when he offers to borrow against his soul. The former Robin knows he's already condemned but he seeks another chance to save Gotham, asking for the city to be revived and for him to get another chance at redemption.

Having lost his city and outlived both his friends and enemies, Damian has reached the point of immortality that becomes torture and yet he gambles on it. Seemingly granted his request, Damian leaps back into the night, enjoying that as long as there is a Gotham, there will be a Batman to protect it. While he may not live up to Bruce Wayne's high standards, Damian Wayne's commitment to their city has certainly exceeded his father's, even if he uses extreme measures to guarantee peace and order.
