DALL-E is a popular AI text-to-image generator that has been thus far locked behind a waitlist, but for those eager to try out the software, that wait is finally over. Now with DALL-E available to the public, alternative AI image generators will have to compete with the technology in order to stay relevant, which will benefit users on the whole.

Artificial intelligence (AI) has been progressing at an incredibly fast pace and continues to create amazing and useful tools. DALL-E is an AI that uses text to generate images, developed by OpenAI. The technology is quite impressive and allows for any number of different kinds of realistic, cartoonish, or other art styles to be generated simply by inputting text prompts. Although text-to-image AI generation is not exclusive to DALL-E, OpenAI's software has definitely piqued interest in this form of AI technology for many.

OpenAI finally removed the waitlist for the DALL-E beta on Sept. 28, allowing anyone to sign up for this incredible AI project and create their own images. Signing up for DALL-E is extremely simple and quick. First, head over to OpenAI's sign up page, enter your email and password, and then verify your email address. Once verification is complete, you will be able to start generating images through text with the DALL-E beta. Just type in a detailed text prompt and click on 'Generate' to create an image.

DALL-E Free Credits And Pricing

Unfortunately, DALL-E is not entirely free, although, for the first month of use, a new user will receive 50 free credits. 15 credits will replenish every month on the same day, but be aware that free credits will not roll over to the next month and will expire. Additionally, 15 new credits will always be added each new month. A DALL-E credit can be used for a single DALL-E request to generate images. Those who want additional credits will have to pay to use the service. 115 credits are priced at $15, and at the moment, there do not seem to be any discounts for buying more, so 230 credits would be $30, 345 credits would be $45, etc. The good news though is that for both free and paid credits, users will have the same rights for images they generate.

The DALL-E beta being open to the public is great news for everyone, including the developers. OpenAI will have more images to refine and perfect DALL-E, and users finally will get to use DALL-E for their own personal creative needs, whether it be for professional or personal reasons. Although DALL-E is not entirely free, the free credits should be enough for casual users or those who just wanted to try out the tool for a bit and have some fun. Overall, it will be interesting to see what users come up with while using DALL-E, and how OpenAI further improves the tool.
