DALL-E mini has gone viral on social media over the past few days thanks to its quick and easy ability for internet users to create their own AI-generated art, and without the need for any artistic skills. AI algorithms can be found in abundance now, with many services and products relying on them for various reasons. Social networks also actively utilize algorithms to help with recommendations, with TikTok’s algorithm so far providing to be one of the most effective examples.

The use of AI to actually create things is not a new development either, and art is no exception. In early 2021, the non-profit AI research group OpenAI announced DALL-E, a neural network that was capable of generating images based on text descriptions. However, DALL-E was created as more of a proof-of-concept and wasn’t really designed for internet users. While DALL-E mini was not created by OpenAI, it does make use of the same idea, and in a more accessible way.

Getting started with DALL-E mini is fairly simple as it doesn’t require much more than heading over to the Hugging Face website. Actually using DALL-E mini is equally as simple, as all the user needs to do is decide on the words that their artwork will be inspired by. Type the words in the text box at the top of the page and then hit the “Run” button to start the program. The AI will then take over, ‘paint’ the art, and generate the results. As an example, the image shown at the top of this article was created by typing in “space,” “ocean” and “Shiba Inu,” the latter of which is the breed of dog popular with Dogecoin and other meme coins.

It Might Take Some Time To Get Your AI Art

In general, the program runs and generates the art pretty quickly. However, it can take up to a couple of minutes on some occasions due to the general popularity of DALL-E. Since it has gone viral, many have been flocking to the website and the run time heavily depends on just how many people are using it at the time. In some cases, users may be presented with a warning message stating “Too much traffic, please try again,” which is a clear indication that the program is struggling to cope with the recent viral demand. Trying again later, or continually trying to run the program, will eventually work, it just may take some time.

When the program does actually run, a timer in the top corner of the box indicates how much time has elapsed. Even after DALL-E mini has started, it is possible that another surge in demand will stop it from continuing. However, this is mostly only encountered in the first few seconds. After making it over this initial time hurdle, the program appears to run fine, allowing DALL-E mini to complete the session, and create your very own custom AI-generated art.
