Twilight actress Kristen Stewart is set to portray rock star Joan Jett in the up and coming biopic about Jett's all girl band, The Runaways. Also set to star is Dakota Fanning who'll be playing Cherri Currie, lead singer of The Runaways. The story is about Currie's time as lead singer with the band, which she joined when she was only 15 and the lifestyle that ensued.
Variety has announced:
At 15, Fanning is the same age Currie was when she made her debut with the Runaways as the lead singer who belted out hard-edged tunes like "Cherry Bomb." Currie became caught up in drugs and a hard-partying lifestyle.
It'll be interesting to watch Fanning take on this role as this is her initial foray into a more adult role. She's recently done The Secret Life Of Bees and Push, but nothing remotely as adult in nature as this role will obviously require. The transition from child star to adult actor is always a daunting task, but probably more so when you've had acclaimed success like Fanning.
This film will definitely be something that I'll want to see, and not only because I'm interested in the subject matter, but to see if Fanning can pull it off. Moreover, I think it's going to be one of those pivotal roles that will change the direction of her career. So it'll be fascinating to see where this role will take her in her career as it is an obvious choice to transition herself from what she's done in the past as a child actress and into more adult roles.
